Guest Visa10E Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Hi there I think this topid may be related to the 'vibrating auxilary belt' topic but hey ho. Just got home in my 02 C5 2.2 HDi Exclusive (68k on clock) and the engine sounds really rattly - the rattle noise rising with the revs - not unlike the noise made when kids insert pieces of plastic/card between the spokes of their bikes to make them sound like motorbikes - only a more mechanical sounding noise. God I hope its nothing serious as I'm at my wits end with this car having splashed out £500 on it in the last 3 months! Quote
kfk Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Might be worth checking the crankshaft pulley - check here Quote
Guest Visa10E Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Cheers I read that post before I posted this one - it does sound like a similar problem Quote

criffelkicker Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Very good kfk just got car back that was exactly what it was - £160 fitted all in from my local Indy have a close look at your alternator pulley. It is a free wheel pulley and will wear out and wobble stick generaly wreck your auxillary drive belt and make all those rattle noises at start up and idle. When i had gone through my 3rd belt in 3 years I checked all the pullys with the plan of changing the tensioner again, but no its the alternator.. the alternator is £200,00 but the pulley and the tool to remove it with is only £70.00. got mine from local motor factors through hc CAR-GO parts suppliers.
