Guest Chunky Monkey Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Hi All, Have any of you with 2.0HDI multispaces "chipped" your engine, if so what one have did you use and how effective was it. Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Hi Chunky Monkey! I don't have a Multispace, but I do have an 02 2.0 Picasso HDi (Same tart with a different Frock!). I found her a wee bit lethargic compared to my last car (110hdi Xantia) so I fitted this chip which I got off Ebay for £105 delivered. They claim 115 bhp and 192 lb/ft torque. Up from 90 and 151.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Diesel-Tuning-Chip-C...1QQcmdZViewItem I had to trim the guide blades on the plugs a bit as the ones on the "top" of the plug were on the wrong side from the coresponding slot in the Citroen Plug. I had to do the same with the Citroen plug which came out of the fuel rail sensor. After that it was plain sailing and the guides aren't really needed anyway as the plug can only go in one way. I found it easier to remove the fuel filter and it's mounting bracket (10 Min Job). The pipes unclip from the filter and there's only one wiring connector. You won't have any problems or make a mess if you keep the filter upright. You may want to change the filter while it's out if it hasn't been done for a while. After I had fitted it I had to adjust the wee screw by about 4 turns ACW (One at a time with ignition off) and try it out again before I got a distinct improvement. It is now every bit as good as the Xantia was and the Fuel consumption SEEMS to have improved as well. My first fill after getting the car in March this year was 42.8 with the computer indicating 42.2. I haven't done a fill up calculation since fitting it but the computer is now indicating 48.7 average so we'll have to wait & see come fillup time. My Bro in Law followed me along the road the other day and says I'm not making any smoke so it could possible go another turn or two yet but I'm happy as is. Insurance (NFU) was loaded by £15 so that wasn't disastrous either. Cheers. Hope this helps. Quote
tronboy Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Hi All, Have any of you with 2.0HDI multispaces "chipped" your engine, if so what one have did you use and how effective was it. I had my 2.0HDi 'Lingo Superchipped. £400+VAT and up to 120bhp.Absolutely awesome performance, better fuel consumption and I loved it. BMW 320is were fair game, and MINI Coopers were left in my wake. Even better that few traffic cops would suspect a van with windows as being anything like a target! The downside was that it smoked noticeably (don't know what this would do in an emissions test for MOT because the car was too young to be tested) and you had to use good fuel. Biodiesel from the local farm was a no-no. Go for it ! Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 If the car is "Smoking Noticeably" then it's being over fuelled and WILL fail an MOT emmissions test on smoke. That is the only test done on Diesels and involves revving the engine while sampling the exhaust. This is why I think it's better to use a plug in module like mine, You can always trim it back with the screw before submitting it for test, or remove the module (10 min job) before the test. You can put it back afterwards and no-one will be any the wiser. I'm surprised that Superchips, who are a highly reputable firm, let the car out of their premises with visible smoke from the exhaust. From the reports I've read in Diesel Car mag (Now What Diesel) I didn't think that would happen. Also, £400 plus vat is an AWFULL lot to pay for something which you can't even remove and put on your next car, or sell on later. Mine only cost £105 delivered to the door and took 10 mins to fit! Cheers. ;) Quote

Smoking was noticeable only on hard acceleration, although since I was doing quite a lot of that, it was rather frequent!! Is the £105 chip that you bought available for the 1.6HDi? Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Hi again. I bought my tuning box on Ebay but the exact one doesn't seem to be there at the moment. However, there's another very similar one which you'll find athttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Diesel-Engine-Perfor...1QQcmdZViewItemAlsohttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-C2-C3-C4-C5-...1QQcmdZViewItem I agree with you about the fuel consumption/emmissions analogy but the point is that the car is smoking under hard accelleration, which is what the MOT test tries to emulate by accellerating the engine on full fuel to the rev limit. If the engine isn't being overfuelled it won't make smoke. I would hope that Superchips tested it to ensure it was below the MOT limit. It would maybe be best to check it out with them before MOT time comes around Cheers. Hope this helps. ;) Quote
