tinxi Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 after months of contacting Citroen regarding the knocking noise from the front end of the car i have finally found out the truth. I stumbled across these forums whilst trying to see if anyone else had these problems to my surprise i found out they do!! So i contacted Citroen about the recall to fit the cups they said it didn't affect my car from the vin number. After todays efforts i have found out that they have been fitted in the past before we owned the car. The main Citroen dealer told us this was completed before our owner ship. They are now asking for 37.50 plus vat to check that they are still in place! If not they will ask Citroen to pay for a new spring as a good will gesture! Now am i wrong in thinking this or am i rightI know 37.50 +vat isn't loads of money but surely i shouldn't have to pay to see if there job has worked or not.The good will so they are saying they may not pay for this to be done even if it is there fault! So after my rant i am just wondering if anyone knows what these springs look like or if they have any pictures so i can have a look for myself as Citroen are driving me mad with there incompetence to answer a straight questionAny help would be great fully appreciated as i have lost all faith in Citroen.Would it be easier for me to buy my own springs and have an independent garage fit them? not fussed about the expense just want a safe car.thanks all tinxi x Quote
kfk Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 The recall involved a range of cars and owners would have been notified. As you have found, it's possible your vehicle has had the recall prior to your ownership. In which case the modified spring retaining cups will have been fitted if the previous owner reponded to the recall. The recall did not involve replacing the springs, it merely provided a cup that would catch the spring before it dug into your tyre should the spring snap. With regard to the charge your dealer wishes to make to check the recall. Somewhere along the line someone is being asked to do something by you to satisfy your mind that the recall has been carried out and that you dont have a broken spring.......why should they check it for nothing? if its peace of mind your after you should be happy to pay the charge......and if they find a fault satisfied that in the first instance it maybe money well spent. Should your dealer find that a broken spring is present on the vehicle there is no hard and fast rule as to who pays for the repair.....you might be p'ssed off but the manufacturer has guidlines whereby it may or maynot offer a Goodwill gesture.....a goodwill gesture isnt an entitlement and may not pay for the repair in full. If you have any doubts about the front suspension you should speak to your Dealer......if you want to know if the cups have been fitted a polite request to your local dealer should get a receptionist to wander to your car and have a quick look and say yes or no.......if you want someone to check there fitted correctly and it is found on checking that they are......expect to pay for someones time.
