C5 Vtr Mk1 2.0 hdi 110bhp Ice Green Nov 03 97k, alloys and boot spoiler.........which imo lifts it aesthetically above the usual 2.0 hdi models B)

had it a few months, as anyone knows, the vtr on this model don't actually relate to performance enhancements but i love the look, comfort and more rounded implementation of the onboard toys.

Y reg 01 plate C5 sx 1.8 16v 135,500 miles. for £700 about 5 months ago

No problems and everything works so far.

I'm impressed with the comfort and the handling even though it's just the H3 and not the + model.

Performance is ok for a 1.8ltr but it seems a bit of a short geared car, more like a typical 1.4 or 1.6 car It seems like its close ratio'd too. Is this normal? All I can tell you is my brother in law's C5 Seems to have taller gearing!

Saying that the poke it has between 50 - 100 mph(private roads of course) is quite impressive and leaves a lot of larger powered car owners scratching their heads. I get about 75 miles to £10 = 38.6 mpg so I can't really complain.

So far I've replaced two dipped beam bulbs which went together, The stereo as the CD didn't work, front and rear pads for mintex pads, fully serviced by me. I had a side wall puncture about a week ago but thankfully it was the oldest tyre on the car so it has 4 new Uniroyal's (I swear by them) on now.

Previous to me owning it, it had a new full exhaust system fitted along with new cat. It had a knock sensor replaced, timing belt, drive belts and new clutch fitted. It also had new spheres fitted about 40,000 miles ago along with a pair of A/R bar droplinks. The guy I bought it off had it from new but felt he had spent enough money on it.... Hehehe my gain, his loss as most of the common issues had been fixed. I'm just expecting the rear arm bearings to go but so far so good. It's never let me down yet and some people still think c5's are unreliable!

It does however have a slight "tick" coming from the o/s/f camshaft area but Ive had the rocker cover off and checked the lifters and cam lobes for wear or scoring and found nothing any Ideas guys? It's not loud but annoying when I can't see anything wrong and the car performes well.

'52 plate 2002 2.0 HDi SX estate, 120,000 +.

Owned it 15 months, no major problems, just wear and tear.

Tyres, exhaust, new front brake discs and pads, new rear pads and calipers refurbished.

Trip computer packed up on bringing it home, air conditioning ditto, must get the AC sorted one day-soon!

Runs on Biodiesel when I'm working as they make it next door.

Been off on sick leave 4 months though so normally gets filled up with dinodiesel at Sainsburys.

Does 32MPG around the houses, 47+ on a decent run.

Rain sensor doesn't work either, so soggy seats today as I left the winderz open overnight ;)

What C5 Do You Own?

I've just bought a 2004 (04) 2.0HDI VTR in Black.

Not taken delivery yet as the cheque from the Insurance Co hasn't cleared yet (payment from my written off Picasso 1.6 HDI 110 after another driver used my car as a brake!) , so I can't pay for it until it has cleared.

Hopefully I'll collect it on Thursday evening Friday morning.

Plus, I'll have to big up Lythgoe Citroen Bolton.

I was struggling to find a suitable replacement, and after phoning them, they searched around and found the above car, knocked a shedload off the advertised price, gave me 12months road tax, 12 months warranty and are servicing it before I pick it up.

and it's only done 28k

When I a older and got more money.lol I am going to have a C5 3.0i V6 Auto Exclusive SE.

The Toys the C5 gets are just brilliant. No wonder it is such a popular choice for Company Car Drivers.

And they are cheap to buy now as you can get a 2002 C5 Exclusive SE from £2,200 and it would have cost up to £23,495 Brand New one.

If I win the lottory tonight I will buy one.lol

2002 110 HDI SX. Got it in Jan 08 with 80k on the clock, pretty tidy generally. Did the big service when I got it (cambelt etc), and it is now on 103k. I love it and would not hesitate to buy another. Cheap to buy, cheap to insure, excellent mpg (between 53 and 60 on my 100 miles daily run). Very happy.

Previous Car- C5 2001SX 2.2 137Bhp Very Good, though lots of faults, lucky I had Extended Warranty.

Current Car- C5 2005 VTR 2L 138Bhp Even Better

- best car I have ever had, comfortable, smooth, powerful when required, average 50+mpg, and 30+towing a Caravan to Spain thru France.

Though I am not a (Boy?) Racer

How does the performance and economy of the 2.0 compare with the 2.2? I've got a 2.2Hdi VTR Estate (pre-facelift) in which I've done 53k miles in just over 3 years (total mileage now 73k) and have been very pleased with it until recent problems with the dreaded anti pollution fault. I was thinking of trading it in for a facelifted 2.0Hdi like you've done.

2.2Hdi Exclusive Estate '03

122k miles, second owner, acquired three years ago with 68k miles.

Problems: blower resistor (easy fix at circa £50); 2 x exchange DPF filter and Eolys top-up (at circa £250 per time); broken swirl chamber valve linkage (resulting in premature DPF change as I didn't fix it very quickly - easy fix @ £20; one tyre pressure sensor (easy fix, but pricey at £70 + £20 for initialising); washer pump (easy fix @ £20); multifunction control on stalk (fiddly fix but free); seized front brake caliper (circa £100 fitted iirc); replacement bulbs in cigar lighter socket and multifunction display backlight (pennies to fix); replacement front sidelight and rear number plate light; rear load cover failure to retract (was able to fix for free with a bit of time); starter motor (£120, fitted myself as it's very accessible)

I think that's about it apart from a busted rear window (malicious damage) and a busted roof rail (driver stupidity)

Seems like a long list, but most are trivial and I have done almost all of the jobs myself so overall cost of ownership has been very reasonable. Fuel economy across the whole period averages at 43mpg (coinciding exactly with Citroen's combined figure). No major mechanical or electrical problems at all so far (excepting perhaps the starter motor, but that went at 119k miles so I can't complain really). My wife's A-Class is a different story however - 40k miles and so many problems it's almost uneconomical to repair. Think I'll stick to French cars...

I have a 2.2Hdi SX, 2003 with just over 100k on clock. Had it nearly 3 years from 52k. I previous owner and fsh from citroen from new to 52k, then serviced and repaired by me, with occasional trips to local garage I trust for things I can't do. Oil and all filters replaced every 10000, had eloys fluid topped up and particlate filter cleaned at 62000, cambelt at 90000, battery, starter and alternator all around 95k about new year time, front discs and pads, two drop links and one ball joint for recent mot, two full sets of tyres and two headlight bulbs. That IMHO is not a lot for 3 yrs and 50000 miles. Never left me stranded, most comfortable car I have ever owned, tows caravan as if it is not there, averages 45mpg solo, 25mpg towing. All in all a brilliant car for me always changed car every year up to this one but can't think of anything that would be better for it's job than this is, so it has changed my motoring pattern!
