ariauk Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Hi All, Wonder whether anyone can point me in the right direction. I have an 06 C3 1.4 HDI thats done about 10,000 miles. Recently there has been a screeching noise that only seems to happen when the cars been on a run, it gets worse when driving round bends or steering and in the damp but seems to happen in the end regardless. At slow speeds and town driving there is a softer sound that is almost like a light tinkling screech of that makes any sense. The car is in warranty and has been back to the garage who say they have had a look but can't find anything wrong. The noise is driving me nuts and I'm about to take it back again as I have a long drive to France coming up. Has anyne else experienced this? or have any idea what this is? Thanks, Quote
stimulator Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 This car has electric power steering so you can rule out the drive belt to the steering pump. However it could be the aux drive belt that drives the alternator or for that matter the alternator itself. That is where I'd start looking. Quote

They have looked at this and say its fine. It's going back again midweek, they say they think it's grit in the brakes (or somethihng along those lines) and it's going to cost as its not covered by warranty. They reckon its quite common on c1's and c2's too. Does this sound right? Thanks again Quote
stimulator Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 If it's grit on the brakes I'd expect it all the time. However it's possible it's the brake pads 'singing'. A possible cure for that is the champering of the leading edge of the pad material. If you tap the brakes does it stop, if no then I'd not suspect them. Quote
tinxi Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 there is another topic about this somewhere and there fix which worked on mine was to change the brake pads to non citroen 1s as apprently its the compound they use. I read it on here somewhere like i say changed mine and the screach stopped hope this is some help tinxi Quote
geordiepaul2005 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Hi, I have the same problem as described by the original poster. The noise stops if I touch the brakes. Not sure what has caused this, though hopefully its easily fixed. Paul Quote
techbod Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 the cars only done 10k? this noise isn't normal by any means unless something has hit the dust plate on the disc and its touching the disc hence the squeal ( very high pitched noise ),jack the wheel of the ground and spin it to see if the noise is there if it is then check to see if the dust plate is touching the break disc and if it is then pry it away from contacting the disc.
