Guest Xantia2.1TD Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Hi, I have an R reg Xantia 2.1TD estate. The rear fog lamps have stopped working. The bulbs are fine as is the fuse F18 (and all the othe fuses come to that). All other lights are OK. I am guessing the relay. But where is it? I have looked under the fuse box under the dash by the drivers side - there are a lot of relays there. Is it one of these? I stuck a voltmeter on the incoming wire (2031). When the plug is disconnected and the lights are turned on it seems to register 12v (or more). But when I connected it up, the voltage disappeared. What is that about? Any ideas out there? Many thanks in advance (MOT is pending . . .) Quote
kfk Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Have you got a tow bar?, if so i would check the fog light switch fitted into the towing socket. Quote

Yes, there is a towbar fitted - never used it. There are 2 sockets on it, left has a white cap and right one has a black cap. I can't see any switch down there. Would that be switch operated by pushing a plug into one of these? If so, any idea which one? I have to say that the one on the left (white cap) is showing some signs of corrosion on the bottom pin . . . Many thanks again. Quote
kfk Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Its the black one you need to worry about.....the switch as you say is operated by pushing the socket in. If you remove the socket and look into the rear where all the wires connect you should be able to see it clearly....you might even be able to fix it with a squirt of wd40......obviously to confirm its the switch you should be able to bridge it out and see the fog light works. Hi, You were right! Its all a bit corroded down there but I traced the wires back to some connectors behind the fascia just inside the tailgate on the offside. It turned out that there was already a bridge there but the wire had been cut and the ends taped. Maybe this was done when the towbar was fitted. Anyway, reconnecting these wires did the job. Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Quote
