I own a C5 hdi 2.2 diesel 52 plate, and am having probelms with the external temp guage reading on the computer, which is stuck at 83c or same in farenheight and will not reset, anyone have any suggestions as to how I can reset it. Also my water coolant is low, what do I have to top it up with, does it have to be specified coolant, any help would be grateful.

I've never had a problem with the external temp sensor but often they can give false readings. Make sure that it doesnt have anything stuck to it like car polish, squashed bugs etc. It is located on the bottom of the passenger wing mirror. I'm not to sure how to reset it but I presume it will have something to do with the dispaly module. I know you can adjust between C & F and maybe this might help. Sorry I can't help beyond that m8.

Your coolant is pretty much standard and can mix with aftermarket coolants. A mixture of 33% coolant, 67% water is ideal for summer/spring/autumn usage & 50%/50% for winter usage.

Make sure it doesn't run too low or air will enter the system and bleeding it will be required.

Hi Ronin,

Many thanks for reply,I've had a look underneath wing mirror and found a button of sorts but nothing changed when I tried to move it, I have already tried altering it on computer display, to no avail. Also regarding coolants, is there one I can use that is an all round coolant?

The temperature sender can be changed. You'll need to remove the mirror which has a spring ring holding it in place. Reach it from the outside bottom corner.

If the coolant hasn't been changed for a while, it's maybe better to flush and put new ethylene glycol mix in. After all you don't know what's in there and they don't always mix.
