Johndouglas Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Can we take it you really mean 100% biodiesel? Some guys talk about biodiesel when they really mean straight vegetable oil. Next question - what sort of fuel pump is on your engine? Some are Bosch, others Lucas. Quote
tooter Posted June 10, 2008 Author Posted June 10, 2008 Hi yes i do meen 100% biodiesel not vegoil not shure what fuel pump is in it. This mite sound daft but where is it situated and what do i look for thanks. Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Look to the front of the engine - over to the left. From it you'll see four thin pipes which run away to the four injectors. Look closely and you'll see a maker's name on it - either Lucas or Bosch - could be either. If it's Bosch you may be OK to use bio. If it's Lucas there's a chance that you'll be wanting a new fuel pump within a few thousand miles because the seals will have hardened and be leaking. Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Hi Guys. Not sure if this is 100% but it's my understanding that the turbo's were Bosch and non-turbos Lucas. It's also my understanding, mostly from what I've read in these forums, that the bosch pump can cope with fuels other than "proper" diesel better than the lucas one which tends to suffer from seal failure when subjected to veg oil & high %ages of Bio Diesel. As I say, that's the message I've been getting from people who have "been there, done that" and posted here. I personally have no experience of running on anything but BP Diesel! Apparently HDis don't care for anything else! Cheers ;) Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Apparently HDis don't care for anything else! I understand that HDIs will tolerate up to 30% bio, but veggie oil will burn out the lift pump. Quote
tooter Posted June 10, 2008 Author Posted June 10, 2008 Hi guy thanks for all youre replys just to get it right duz the excelerator cable run to the top of the fuel pump if so then i have a bosch. Is that all i need to worry about when making the switch or is there other things i need to consider? Do you recomend a mix or or just use straight 100% biodiesel as i say im a complete noob i have been reading up but its a bit confusing  thnks. Quote
tooter Posted June 12, 2008 Author Posted June 12, 2008 pls can someone give me a awnser. ;) :D :) :P :P :P :P Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 If your pump has two levers on the top of it with the fast idle cable nearer to the front of the car then you have a Lucas pump. If the fast idle cable is on the engine side of the pump then it's likely you have a Bosch. Lucas seals don't last long in the presence of vegetable oil. Whether or not 100% bio will be the same, I don't know. Quote
