A K Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I have a C5 auto HDI 2001. For some time it has been cutting out and going into service/half power mode when cold if you give it a little too much throttle, and this has been happening for 4 years! It used to read "anti-pollution fault", but does not bother doing this any more. Lately, it does the power cut down thing more often , if the incline is too steep, even when running hot. It is fine if you stop engine , and then switch on again, but unerving if you are on the middle lane of a motorway going uphill! I have tried using the cold start method of driving in the manual mode, but it still clunks into service cut power mode. Also, the headlights flash at odd times, but solved this by always having sidelights on when driving...then no flash. No point going to a citroen garage, I was once charged £96 for a fuse.....when it does the automatic gear box fault thing......in my case it was a fuse.Apart from all this, I am happy with the 150,000 miles the car has given me, and will keep it till it falls apart. If anyone has a simple explanation for this cold start, and uphill climb problem, I would be grateful, thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 When it read "anti-pollution fault", I think it was telling you that it was time to clean the particle filter and top up the fluid. Ignore the message and the engine goes into limp home mode. Quote
Ronin Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 There is becoming an apparent patern with high mileage hdi auto's. A lot of AP faults can be boiled down to short journey's which eventually clog the whole system including the EGR valve. I can only imagine that the way an auto box works, it doesn't help the situation. There are many quick and easy solutions to try first before expecting the worst so take an hour and read as many posts as you can. There are some gems of information. As far as the lights, try cleaning the plugs and contacts to the headlamps etc. Pay special attention to the battery terminals and leads. Next check and clean the lighting earth points on the inner n/s/f wing. It may also be worth your while cleaning or replacing the earth lead to the gearbox. You never know but many of your problems could be related to this. Fuses blow for a reason, so find the cause and not the initial cure.A bad earth can cause many problems with auto boxes and the electronics involved with complicated ECU's and AP faults. There's a hint for everyone  Quote

Pieter Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Worth having the battery tested as well mine was doing alsorts before found out it had a dead cell :unsure:the head lights problem is caused by a to little electic power in the car deu to the use of the Hydractive system.only solution is get a stronger generator in the car.
