Guest emy12 Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I need to pop up the power steering tank, i went to a shop and indicated that Slick 50 Power Steering Fluid is good.I ve bought it.Is no colour. It is any good? if not what kind of fluid do i need for zx 1.4? Thanks Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Hi There. Normally you would use Automatic transmission Fluid (ATF) to replenish the power steering tank. It is normally red in colour but may degrade over time to become a dirty dark brown/black. If it has become like that it may be best to change it. If the guy in the shop told you that the "Slick 50" fluid is suitable, then it probably is. Cheers Hope this helps. :D Quote

ATF fluid from any known manufacturer will fit you. 2 comments: 1. System should not require any top up. If you're missing the fluid - check for leaks. you don't want to get stuck with a very hard to turn steering wheel, especially when Murphy is just waiting around the corner.2. If leak was found and fixed - make sure you bleed the system from air bubbles, else you'll have the steering "stuck" for a second while turning the wheel. Quote
Guest emy12 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Thanks for the help. Is just a friction under minimum level in power steering tank( no leaks whatsoever) the colour of it is dirty dark red/black, is still red not brown. I have to replace it when i get the Haynes manua. I do not think that ever been changed. My brother had it for 4 months than has left the country and wanted to abandon the car in the street, i took it , is only 60000 miles. The engine runs well. First time when drive ZX, yesterday did 270 km , no stop, only smell coming when turn on the heater, I ve to du s'thing. l use it as family car , i ve the Company's one 07 but tired when drive it. Shemer Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Don't change the hydraulic fluid. it can last for ever in the steering system, and may only get you into trouble if not bleeded right. Quote
