Hi folks,

New to this site and indeed Citreon ownership. I have just acquired a 2001 HDi Dispatch van, I see theres no special forum for it, I hope you dont mind me posting in this forum?

I am in need of some advice, I have just done a 400 mile round trip from Scotland to Lakes and back, the temp gauge was at just over 70 most of the way, the van ran fine. I popped the bonnet and felt the coolant hoses going in and out of radiator, they felt ok if a little soft for what I have had in the past with other cars. But I noticed a slight hiss from the filler cap on the reservoir (plastic) when I squeezed them. I then unscrewed the cap and could remove it with no bubbling or spurting. The coolant seemed clean and hot but no pressure? Is this normal?

I havent had the van long enough to check for leaks, theres no leakage on the ground, none on the filler cap, no white smoke from tailpipe, no oil in water or vice versa, doesnt appear to overheat (although I have no idea what temp its meant to be at) and as I said ran for 400+ miles with no noticeable issues.

Does this ring any alarm bells or is it the norm.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks

is the heating inside the van working ok if it was mine id be checking the rad cap ( check the rubber seal or better still go to dealers and replace it) the thermostat (could be stuck open or may have been removed to resolve overheatin issues) as after a 400 mile journey you should no be able to open rad cap as the system should be pressurized

Hi,Thanks for the response. My interior heater is working fine, tonight I ran the van on my drive up to operating temperature with the header cap off, no spurting or gurgling from open cap. No boiling, just a little gentle steam wisp from the cap. The temp gauge stayed pretty much where it always sits around 75.

Curious, do you have any ideas on how I check whether the thermostat is fitted or not?

Im pretty sure there is no head problems, as running with the header cap off would surely show some bubbling etc.

I'll look to change the cap, any other ideas?

Thanks for the advice.

For the price and the work that is involved in doing the job i would just put another t/state in. Its a easy job 2/3 bolts and easy to get at 20 mins max. Im not saying there is a fault as the t/state can sometimes stick open but have seen it loads of times that when there is overheatin issues pull the t/state out and let the engine run cold a normal sign is warm and not hot air comming through the heaters.
