Guest grimble Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Hello, this is my first post on this Citroen Forum but have owned and have been a fanatic of Citroen for many years. My Problem. I'm having to prime my Xantia in the morning so it can start, I've changed the priming bulb but by the next morning it seems there's no fuel in the system again. Initially I thought there was a problem with the glow plugs, so I changed these but they were ok anyway, then my garage friend told me to stick a fuel non return valve before the priming bulb but found out that it was probably the priming bulb as this had a fuel non return valve inside. Should I stick another fuel non return valve before the priming bulb, that seems mad as the bulb should be doing the job!! Or there any other reasons that could instigate this problem? Thanks for any help, Cheers, Graham. (Devon) Quote
techbod Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 common problem due to air leak places to check are the pipes between each injector and the last one which is a rubber plug and they break down because they are the crap piping cotton coated you can buy the kit to replace them, next is the fuel filter seal I did my brothers and had to use the old seal and the new one to stop it leaking the new seal wasn't thick enough to make a good seal, next is the fuel line and the ball you use to prime the system and the piping because they rot over time Quote
Guest grimble Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Thanks very much, I'll go through these and hopefully it should sort the problem. Quote
Guest grimble Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Hello again! I've recently changed the fuel filter/seal and still have the problem with my Xantia, I have talked to a mechanic at length who has told me that it's more than likely that the fuel pump is gone/going.And it's seem fuel pumps are quite expensive to say the least! Today the Xantia passed the MOT with flying colours, it's in immaculate condition with full service history, what more can anyone want as it's a really, really nice car. I love my Xantia but there's no way I can afford to get another fuel pump and have it fitted! The car's probably only worth £500 and that's with the fuel pump working!! Tommorow I'm off to get a second opinion from a diesel engineer specialist type bloke so wish me luck. But, I'm off to France in a couple of weeks and will be taking the Xantia, I'll just have to prime pretty much every time I start. - one frustrated Citroen enthusiast! Quote
