Hi All, I need help. I have coolant coming from the heater box and dripping into the passenger footwell in my 1993 zx turbo D, my question is, is there any way I can get the heater box out of the car and remove the matrix without removing the dashboard? My car is in daily use and can't be off the road. Regards to all, Mark.

Hi Mark

Afraid not mate, I've just changed mine and I was on a day to strip and the next to re-assemble. Only attempt if you are confident. Intercooler has to come off also to get at the dash bolts, plus wiper motor assembly. Inside - S/Wheel, dash clocks/surround, center console and dash. then matrix inlet nuts/pipes from engine bay to matrix, unbolt heater assembly nuts from inside engine bay then remove heater asembly from inside. Remove matrix from heater assembly and then a reverse. Be careful when filling up the cooling system for trapped air. As you can see not a straight forward job.

Hope this helps

To get you out of trouble in the short term, try bypassing the heater matrix by removing the hoses from it and replacing with a length of tubing. It will stop the leak until such time as you can do the job properly.

Cheers

thanks for the replies, as you say not an easy job, I must admit that I bottled it and left it to a family friend who has his own small car workshop, I think he charged me something like £100 labour so I'm happy.
