Guest c5vtr Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 hi So i've a Mk 1 Vtr Nov 03 with the monochrome screen on the dash. I'd like to install the Sat Nav into it. From what i've garnered from the site its likely i'll have either one of two manufacturers radio/cd player installed. 1. How can i be certain which, am i removing some fascia or is there a code in the manual which will tell me which? 2. How easy is it to buy/beg/steal a unit and install? 3. for those that have them are they worth it or really am i better with the likes of Tom Tom, Garmin etc, not that i actually want anything stuck to the window tbh. 4. Can i go colour screen? Thanks all for your thoughts and input. Quote

techbod Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 that was an extract of whats on the cars and I was pointing out the options so your VTR should be able to upgrade but I doubt it will be cheap, anything can be added if you have the cash ;) navidrive is way more complicated than sat nav http://www.citroen.com/CWW/en-US/TECHNOLOG...FORT/NAVIDRIVE/ Quote

Prise off the curved trims either side of the radio and undo the torx screws, then simply pull it forward. You can remove it completely without worrying about the code - it's hard coded to your car. It's probably made by Clarion, but I don't know what the sat nav upgrade path is. I'm certain you can't get colour without changing the whole dash and installing the larger display I can tell you that I use a Navman and it works fine. Depending on the weather it can take a few minutes to get a GPS fix, but once connected it never loses the signal. I've done journeys of 200 miles with no problems. I have a power socket extension lead from the rear outlet running under the carpet and inside the door surround trim, delivering a socket connection on top of the dashboard, so I can connect with no unsightly trailing wires. I have the unit on the bottom right hand corner of the screen, so it's easy to reach For £100 ish you get a decent size colour screen, multiple display options, and no need for irritating voice prompts - you just turn her down and listen to the radio unhindered. Personally I wouldn't consider the Citroen monochrome version.. Quote
800jimbo Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 I have the VDO Citroen sat nav in mine and I prefer to use a Tomtom - it is much, much better than the factory installed sat nav and is much easier and cheaper to keep up-to-date. The only problem is getting a signal through the windscreen - mine does manage it but can get a bit intermittent under trees. I really wouldn't waste the money on retro-fitting any factory system. That said, I do use the other information systems you get with the colour display. Quote
