Hi all,

Just got my C1 today, put a few miles on the clock, enjoyed a nice drive & then I get what I think is a problem. The passenger side window won't go up! After 5 mins with the engine off I finally manage to get the window up - pheewwwwww!!!

But this isn't the first electrical issue I think I've noticed - does anyone elses C1 have a little judder when you turn the rear heater on? Or if you hold the window closed to long? I spent a little time turning the rear heater on then off, and each time the car would judder when it went on. Holding the electric window button when closing all caused the same thing. Add this to the window not shutting & I'm worried I'v got electrical issues.

Can anyone ease my mind? Or maybe suggest what it could be?

i had the same thing happen with the window the other day.mine seemed to go slightly out of line and jammed half way up. i just put it back down again and it went up fine after that. was going to mention it at my 1000 mile check up but you know it will work perfectly when its in there workshop

This judder you are talking about, I assume the car is stationary when it happens, as you would not notice any engine load changes due to increase in electrical load, when on the move.

When stationary and the engine is running. If you then put on a heavy electrical load like a rear windscreen heater or A/C, the electrical system demands more energy via the generator that works off the engine, so the engine willl change revs, ie, can slightly judder.

all i've noticed in similarity to this thread is that when i turned the heat up to demist the car in the morning, i was rolling up the driver window at the same time.....at which point the window promptly stopped mid-flow and would NOT go back up! sorted itself when i rolled it DOWN and then up again.....hmmmm.

Yep, I noticed the same problem twice with my passenger window. It stopped halfway up. I believe I was doing something along the lines of turning the heater on or indicating at the time. Worked when it put it down and then up again. Didn't look like it was physically jammed - basically stopped dead like an electrical / ECU fault.

Reported to my dealer after 1500 miles, but as they couldnt reproduce it they couldnt fix it.

The engine juddering when pressing the rear windscreen heater switch is normal - it's common on all C1/107/Aygo's. It because the extra load placed on the engine to power it isn't compensated for immediately, but takes a second or 2.

Interesting to note some of your Rythm electic windows stopping for a short time.

Possibly there may be a thermal cutout in the circuit of the factory fitted electric windows, in case you keep your finger on too long on the up/down button at the end of glass travel, or due to mechanical loading, ie, glass jambing up or too much friction with the rails.

A thermal cutout is a protection device, which cuts the electrical supply, and allows time for the window motor winding to cool down before resetting, and allowing the circuit to become active again after a short time period.

I personally have a Vibe with DIY aftermarket electric windows that have a 400mm long chaindrive with a reduction gearbox. ie, my window motor is 400mm away from the window drive spindle.

This uses the chain as a takeup mechanism when hitting the end of travel. This protects the motor if my finger stays on the up/down button too long. ie, a mechanical method that is similar to the electrical method of a thermal cutout.

My boss several years back had a Subaru Justy, and his daughter broke down one winter morning. It turned out that with the lights, wipers amd rear window heater the alternator couldn't keep up and the (fairly old) battery went flat
