MysteryDriver Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Iv had my xsara TD 1.9 for 7 months and been very happy with it but now an MOT isdue it seems everything has gone wrong all at the same time, but my biggest worrieis the performance of the car in the last week. I was really low on oil and a family member helped to check oil levels and topped upthe oil with im sure bog standard crappy cheap oil,he said it would do until an oil changein a few weeks time, seeing as i wanted a lot done before MOT time. The car seemed to be running a bit smoother and quieter after the oil change butas of last week the car has been running really slow, taking much longer to get outof 1st gear and 2nd gear slower also, and it seems 2nd or 3rd is about as far as i cango. when this started happening it would come and go then get worse and worse, now thatits going in for MOT tommorow, should i be prepaired to scrap my xsara as i may havedone permanant damage with the oil topup. it give an idea, the car now runs max speed of 33mph at a push. i forgot to mention ,the ecell pedal was always a bit stiff to push but sincethis problem there is very little foot control now ,as the pedal is stiffer andthe distance to push it to the floor is shorter.===================================================the pedal releases fully once pressed to the floor, its manual gears ,the pedalwas always stuff, but now seems shorter to the floor,i havent been driving longand know little about cars,im not sure about the throttle cable, tho it has been checkeda few weeks ago when the oil top up was done and i was told tho the pedal is stiffthe cable was fine. thanks======================================================= thanks Quote
kfk Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 So......have you checked to see if the throttle cable has been inadvertantly moved or snagged up in the engine compartment......or has the cable just become out of adjustment and requires adjusting. If you get someone to depress the throttle pedal does the other end of it turn as far as it can or can you assist it the last bit?.....if so try adjusting the cable. And finally......is it automatic or manual? Quote
