je_1972 Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Hi, my latest fault! I was driving along happily the other evening, when as I went over a slight bump both my head lights went off simultaneously. Luckily I was about 300 metres from home so I got home and parked up. I was about to check the fuse, but according to the manual each light has a separate fuse so it can't be that. A little while ago I was having intermittent problems with my N/S headlamp and when it was in the garage (for the elloys!!) the guy said it was as a result of a faulty earth below the headlamp on the N/S, he hadn't been able to get his hand on it properly, but he said that it was working now. I can't really remember if he said that it was a as a result of what he had done or if it was coincidence. Does any body know where the "earth" is, all I can see is the headlamp and battery cover, I can't see into the engine compartment well enough to see the earth that he is talking about. As always any help is greatly appreciated  Quote
PICASSOCONVERT Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I got into my C5 (2.2HDi estate) one dark evening after work and no headlights. Drove home on the driving lights. Next day I phoned the Citroen dealer who said it would probably be 2 blown bulbs - "not uncommon for one to take the other out". So, two new bulbs fitted and lights back on. The kind Citroen dealer would have supplied and fitted a pair of bulbs for just over £100 plus VAT - and that was about 2004! Mind you, changing the bulbs is not easy - you need 12", triple-jointed fingers and armour-plated skin. Good luck. Quote

Thanks for that, Picasso, I had assumed it was something more serious than the bulbs, I think I will take it to Halfords, as they do a (free I think) fitting service. If I suppose that is worth a try and who knows they might nudge "something" back in to life if its not just the bulbs! I'm still reeling from the cost of two bulbs though £100??? Last time I bought a spare (for the c5) it was about £12 for the bulb, and I managed to get it in after about 3 hours of wrestling! Did they charge you a lot of labour? Quote

Its all down to build quality with the cheaper bulbs not lasting as long Quote
