Hi all,

Trying to iron out the niggles on my '99 1.8 16v Xantia.

Throttle return

Firstly, its got an annoying habit of being slow to react when letting go of the throttle. For example, I'm sitting at 3000 on the motorway, lift off to slow slightly, the throttle remains at 3000 for a second or so before realising that I've let go, and then jerks as the throttle slows. Causes annoying gearchanges.

I've changed the idle control valve and throttle position sensor to no avail, sprayed fuel injection air intake cleaner into the throttle body, no change. Anyone got any ideas?

Courtesy lights

The courtesy lights in the door pillars do not work, either when manually switched on or a door is opened. The door open light on the dash works fine. Changed bulbs, cannot find any reference to a fuse for these. The map reading lights work fine. Bad earth perhaps?

On a seperate note, should the boot have a courtesy light? My ZX did but cannot find one in the Xantia.

Remote

Remote doesn't work, changed battery, tried the reset instructions (something like press button A for 10 seconds then button B, wait for LED to go out etc) to no avail. New remote from Citroen dealer needed?

Any help or insights appreciated, she is a grand elegant lady in a car park of bavarian boxes.

Cheers.

I believe it goes something like:-

Switch ignition on.

Wait for LED to extinguish

Within 30 seconds press lock or unlock button.

Within 10 seconds press lock or unlock on any other keys.

Ensure LED illuminates for .5 second.

I'm sure I've pressed the button with ignition on before to no avail. I'll try it again tonight. Thanks.

The (incorrect it seems) instructions given to me were thus (I've a sneaking suspicion that they are maybe for a mk1 with the receiver on the roof lining above the rear view mirror):

CITROEN XSARA—XANTIA—SYNERGIE– EVASION - Remote Key Programming

CENTRAL DOOR LOCK (1 BUTTON PLIP KEY)

1. Ensure all doors are unlocked using the key.

2. Press and hold the plip key button until the LED stops flashing.

3. After releasing the button, the LED will light constantly.

4. Press the Plip Button once, and the LED will extinguish.

5. Open the door and hold the Plip key near the Ignition switch, and press the plip button once.

6. Now turn the ignition ON, and wait 10 seconds then turn ignition OFF.

7. After 5 seconds the Plip should now operate.

CENTRAL DOOR LOCK with DEADLOCKING (2 BUTTON PLIP KEY)

1. Ensure all the doors are unlocked using the key.

2. Press and HOLD the large plip key button while the LED flashes continuously for 20 seconds. After 20 seconds press the small deadlock button once while still holding the large button.

3. The LED will stop flashing.

4. Release the large button and the LED will light constantly.

5. Press the large button one time, and the LED will go out.

6. Open the door and hold the Plip key near the Ignition switch, and press the large plip button one time.

7. Now turn the ignition ON, and wait 10 seconds then turn ignition OFF.

8. After 5 seconds the Plip should now operate.

Tried the remote again with your instruction, still not working. I can live with it for the meantime.

The throttle thing is doing my head in, had another go at it with copious amounts of WD40, air intake cleaner, put jubilee clips on a couple of hoses that were without, no avail. Not sure whether this is mechanical, the spring seems to come back ok but the engine takes a while to respond, possibly some other sensor issue. Probs need to take it to a dealer for diagnosis.

edit on interior lights:

Cleaned the bulb holders, interior lights now seem to work, nice fade out effect ;)
