BML Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 I have bought a 1999 Citroen Xantia and the advertisment said, "Full service history". However, there was no record of the cambelt being changed on the service history. When I aksed for a receipt the vendor sent me a copy of a garage headed notepaper saying that it had been changed last year but if thats the case I would have thought that it would have been noted in the service history. If I have the cambelt changed is it possible to have it checked to ascertain whether it is the original one or not? Quote
techbod Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 it sounds like the last owner didn't keep the receipts and relied on the book stamps, the intervals are 75k or 10 years so if its done more the dealer will have changed it as specified but its worth a look to see if the writing can be seen on the belt and the obvious paint dots are on the timing points which is standard practice to confirm its lined up right,if in doubt change it ( as a kit not just the belt ) also the water pump because it will save you doing the job again if it goes, general rule of thumb is if is clean in there no rubber dust and things look new it means someone has been in there so let face it the only reason for someone to go in there is to renew things Quote
