Brad1 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Occaisionally, (usually after driving for an hour or so) when pulling up at a junction, there is a bleeping sound and this flashing snowflake symbol appears on the display. The car then refuses to engage first gear for about a minute and then the flashing stops and everything returns to normal. Very embarrassing if you're at the front at traffic lights. This problem has been happening for about 2 years now and although I've mentioned it when the cars in for a service, the garage can't find anything wrong. Anyone experienced similar? Quote
techbod Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 well meet many other on here with the same problem but still no resolve ( its down to the tranny going into limp mode ) and very dangerous and I'm surprised it isn't on a recall list Quote

Hi again... Just an update, this morning the car would not engage gear due to the on-going fault/flashing snowflake issue... occasionally it will engage forward gears but not reverse with the continuous error beeps and the audible gear selection mechanism constantly trying to do something... As a last resort, disconnected the battery and went in for a cuppa... reconnected and initialised the gearbox as per the handbook and now all is well :D with only ONE problem... when is it going to happen again ? is it with kids in the car at some conjested traffic lights ? or ever again ? Am I to understand that this is all too common and that all the affected sensodrive owners just accept the fact ???? :) surely not... someone please shed some light on the subject Have any owners had this problem and got it FIXED ? Thank you all for your anticipated input... Quote

Thank you all for your anticipated input... Wow, that sounds bad if it didn't correct itself after a minute or two. Mine normally returns to normal after a minute (which can seem an eternity if your holding up traffic). Also i have found that if it happens when facing downhill, I can let the car roll forward slightly and get it in second gear (first is not an option) then off we go (the snowflake still continues to flash for a minute but it changes up the gears normally). Although it doesn't happen every journey, if it's going to happen it seems to be after driving for 45 mins. It has occurred once or twice when starting from cold but very rare. Like I said, I have mentioned it to a garage who put it on a fault finding computer and nothing came to light. It wasn't a Citroen garage though, so maybe Citroen garages have more compatible equipment. Quote

Disconnecting the battery was nothing but a REBOOT of the on board computer and they suggested a trip to the dealer for a diagnostic hookup and possibly caused by a faulty sensor or similar... I have no problem with visiting the dealer, but would hate to make that a regular money spinning venture for them at my expense! Quote

CE08LDB Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 My brother have had problems with his 2006 C3 1.6i 16v SensoDrive Exclusive since week 1. You can be driving along and the next thing no gears can be selected. Taking it to the dealer a number of times but their computer can't find nothing wrong where as the RAC laptop picked up a few fault codes but the Dealer didn't want to know. Its greedy on Petrol it averages just 25mpg even when I am driving it. Now my last car 05 C3 1.6i 16v Exclusive SensoDrive brilliant Car. Never went wrong the gearbox was brilliant and brilliant on Petrol. My new 08 C2 1.6i 16v VTR SensoDrive is going well so far. Quote

Because of the nature of the problem, and the fact that that it is intermittent, it is difficult to say... Done a 400 mile round trip without any problems, had a problem the very next day, 'rebooted' and has been OK since. That was the reason for the original message, how safe would you feel if it keeps happening at awkward places like junctions and traffic lights!!! Unlike "CE08LDB" it never happens whilst on the move... only when setting off from a standstill Quote
techbod Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 more like it should be an issue taken seriously by Citroen/PSA Quote
Guest pfb1 Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 more like it should be an issue taken seriously by Citroen/PSA Hi I've had the same problem on my C3 for the last 3 years. It seems to occur when the car has been traveling constantly for 45 minutes or more. I have noticed the problem starts when the unit is changing 'down' and then keeps clicking i.e. hunting for first. Can't get it then goes into snowflake mode. Reboot hasn't helped but what has is that when it happens pump the brake twice. Drive in second and within 30 seconds it goes back to normal. Don't be fooled by Citroens denial of the problem. I know several other C3 plurial owners and they 'all' have the same issue. I am looking at selling the car this summer as I have had enough and I am now concerned about the safety issues. Quote
