Guest DipStick999 Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Main agents diagnosed a fault in 2 of my injectors at only 54K first of all they wanted £750 to repair the faults, but after some negotiations between myself and the sales manager they agreed it would be done under warranty, due to the fact I had only had the car for 35 days even though it was a 2nd hand vehicle, after reading in here of other unsuspecting C3 owners are having the same troubles around similar mileages, is it a known and published fault or are we just a few unlucky motorists? so to carry on with my tale of woe, they phoned me to say they could not get one of the damaged injectors out so had to take the cylinder head off to get it out on the bench, then the phoned aagin to say they could not remove the injector from the head so they would have to get a new head as well as the 2 new injectors which would take 6 days to complete, no mention of cost to myself i may add, now my main question to all you knowlegeable people out there is! is it the injectors which go or is it the seals which are used to seat the injectors into the head so they are a good air tight fit, looking forewards to the flood of replies, Regards and Hi to you all DipStick999 P.S. Forgot to mention its a C3 1.4 Hdi Exclusive on a 03 plate Quote
kfk Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Welcome to the site. If there was to be a 'common fault' with what you are describing i would suggest the copper washers under the injectors are the weakest link. Its unusual for the injectors to be siezed in the cylinder head (on this model) and normally any injectors are removed after softening the carbon thats around them.....nitromores paint stripper works quite well, although gasket remover does the job if not more expensive for the task. With regard to the degree of problems suffered by owners.....i would say a few owners seem to be unlucky and the majority will never have it occur to them.......i think i saw 2 of these last year. It would be easy for customers to assume it can only be a manufacturing defect, but it should be considered that if a vehicle is repaired and the injectors fitted with old seals and without due respect to torque settings it could have the same effect. Thank you KFK for your reply, to update this saga, the main agents have now replaced all 4 injectors and seals, now it seems very much underpowered, and seems to be worse it heavy rain, i drove from Bolton to Lancaster and could not attain more than 54 mph and uphill i got as low as 35 mph the following day when it was fine it seemed to rectify itself, i was wondering if there was a blockage, or a wire loose somewhere during the rebuild or it may be just some setting or other, i dont know, it is booked into the main agents again for next monday, i will await their prognosis, unless any of you experts out there can shed any light on the subject, as every little helps, the old lady said as she weed in the sea. thanks again.
