It sounds to me as if the float has fallen of of the fuel tank sender unit.....consequently because it isnt floating it thinks its empty.

To access the fuel tank sender unit lift up the o/s rear seat base and remove the large black plastic plug from the floor.

The wiring connector will either have 4 wires going in the connector has 2 fat wires and 2 thin ones.....the fat ones are for the fuel pump so you can ignore them.....pins 1 & 5 should be the thin wires.

using a multimeter set to OHMS confirm which pins on the pump are connected to the thin wires......measure the resistance across the pump.

tank sender reading empty = 270 ohms

tank sender half full = 230 ohms

tank sender full = 35 ohms

From what you are saying and if the sender unit is faulty i would expect the reading to be 270ohms.....if you have a full tank and you get a reading of 35 ohms the float is floating!

You can test this without removing the sender ....if you havent got a multimeter go get one from Maplin a cheap £5.00 will be adequate for this job.....spend £20 and you will get one that does this and many other things.....useful if only to test fuses!

thanks i have stuck a resistor across the pins it reads as full fuel tank so i know the gauge on dash is not stuck

so i know it is definite a fuel sender issue

now there is a new probelm car a run fine as soon as it gets up to temp not moving just sitting stationary i must poitn out

you hit the gas pedal it completly cuts out without warning ?

i think this and the fuel sender are a combined problem ....

going to change the whole pump and see if there is a change in the car.....
