I would expect a 54 plate to be the 138bhp engine with the particulate filter so those figures should be 0 or very nearly so. What mileage has the car done? Quote

coastline taxis Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Its done over 100000 miles. its the110 bhp engine.Give it a oil and filter change put forte diesel treatment in a quarter tank of diesel then give the car a good run down the motorway keep it in third and get it up to 70 and watch the crap come out the back and make sure the engine is nice and hot when it goes in for retest. Belive me 100.000 is nothing for a hdi engine we service one with 410.000 on it there bullet proofThe handbrake could be pads or adjustment was it just under on the readings or is there no handbrake at all Quote

davidad Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Thanks for the reply, There was no handbrake movement at all .Do you know what the emissions should be on the car. Also worth checking that the air filter is clean. IIRC the maximum acceptable figure for a turbo diesel is 3. I always give a diesel a good motorway blast a day or two before the MOT and then do at least 20 miles en route to the test to make sure the engine is properly hot, as Coastline suggests. If the brakes work ok from the foot pedal then it sounds like the problem is with the handbrake cable. Quote
