I'm looking for info on installing an aftermarket stereo in a 2003 Berlingo Forte.

I've been warned by Citroen that changing the stereo can cause problems with the multiplex wiring. Does anyone have any experience of replacing the standard radio/cassette unit?

The original unit is a VDO RC260 radio cassette and I'm going to fit a Pioneer DEH-77MP cd/mp3 player.

I've checked the wiring and it looks like the RC260 uses standard ISO connectors, however the wiring doesn't match exactly on the Pioneer, there is a wire for permanent battery(+) which would be wired to the connection for 'radio multiplex', this doesn't sounds right!

The citroen dealer said there is an interface wiring kit which costs a few pounds which solves the wiring problems, does anyone know if/where I can get this?

Also I assume there is no battery connection to the ignition on/off, there only appears to be a permanent live feed to the stereo, I am right?

Cheers

I'll reply even tho I don't own a bingo... yet...

Sounds very much like VAG's "K-line" for diagnostics.

*if* it is as it sounds, the perm live and ign controlled leads have been swapped round. You need to disconnect the diag line also.

Easiest bet is an autoleads adapter lead or similar.

Can try halfords for an adaptor or a local car audio place there probably your best bet.

Try local audio shop first though. not the hell that is halfords.

thanks for the help, i tried a local audio shop but they weren't much use, could hardly be bothered helping me, but he did quickly rewire the iso connector for my pioneer stereo (it has repluggable connectors).

now its wired with both the permanent live and ignition live both going to the permanent live on the car, so i still have no way of using the ignition to turn the stereo off?

the wire connected to 'radio multiplex' is now disconnected completely.

Good idea to replace the VDO unit.

Some 'Lingos have Clarion units which look identical, but actually pick up radio stations, or so I'm told. Don't know if sound quality is better.

I played it safe and fitted the compatible Sony 6-disc changer in the slidey tray under the passenger seat, put in the Harman-Kardon dash tweeters available from Citroen at a silly price and exchanged the door speakers for Alpines, but now I have an iPod, it would be good to patch that in as well. Any ideas?

Let us know how you get on with the Pioneer install !

if you wanna patch your ipod in maybe have a look at a cheap alpine headunit they can now control all the functions of the ipod direct from the headunit so you can stick the ipod in the glovebox etc out of sight.

Here's what I remember from fitting my JVC. The Bling has a nearly ISO wiring connector. I got a secondary connector that allowed me to reconnect the JVC to the ISO connector - and rewire the constant live and the switched live so that the head unit would switch off with the ignition. IIRC, there was only two wires to swap around. If you get stuck, I'll whicp the head unit out of the dash and let you know where they all go.

I'll go along with the "swap live and switched live" theory.

Although I've not made a swap, it's a common question from the kids on the C2 site.

(and yeah, I'm only posting to keep the thread count up)

Its quite common on a lot of different cars to have to do this. My mates corsa was the same she didnt know what it was at first though. Same with a couple mates puntos as well. Quite an easy fix though.

hi, got a berlingo forte 2004, am currently waiting to fit my new stereo, i have found a car audio fitter that supplies a part that connects the aftermarket stereo to the computer in the berlingo and also the remote stalk on the steering wheel. i dont have a part number or anything at the mo, it is quite expensive at £45 but well worth it i think!!
