Guest SortedTrainers Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Does anyone know if its possible to fix a broken seat lever that's used to move the seat forward so that people can get in the back? Its snapped of at a plastic part that goes from the lever into the seat. It appears that the part is riveted to the lever, so that's just one problem I can see, and I think I would need to dismantle the top section of the seat, i'e remove the working parts from inside the cushioning and cover? Is it possible or will I need to replace the whole to half of the seat just because of one stupid part??? Its also got the airbag packed into it? Cheers! Quote
techbod Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Ive done this a few times and no problems, disconnect the negative on the battery ( prevents airbag issues ) then go into the seat and repair the cable or fit a new one, no need to split the top of the seat access can be gained via the rear cover, now when done reconnect the battery earth which resets the airbags as long as you don't mess with the wires to the airbags ( if you remove the seat disconnect the airbag wire only after the battery earth has been removed ) otherwise it will log a fault and remember the radio code. do not leave keys in the car without the driver door window open as when reconnecting the battery will lock the doors and your keys in :o some cars require the ignition to be on before the battery is reconnected to reset the airbags so if you get the light on then disconnect the earth and redo it with the ignition on and no one in the car of course Quote

So i'll need to cut into the seat cover? I was hoping there might be some way to remove the metal frame which the part is attached to at the bottom if I removed the top half of the seat. It seems like its glued to the cushioning, and I'd have to remove the airbag cover..? Bloody annoying when its such a simple part and easily broken.... Quote
techbod Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 not a 100% but I think the top cover is like a sleeve going over the frame but the cable should be able to be threaded down the inside rather than having to cut into it Quote
