Hi All,

I have a SX, 2 years old and just done 12k miles.

For a while now I have been worried about the rotors (I believe this is what the shiny discs behind the alloys are called!).

They seem to be very worn, with deep grooves running round them. I have mentioned them twice to my dealer but the mechs there say that is normal for C4s.

My brother has an Octavia which has done 40k and his are nowhere near as worn/grooved as mine.

Anyone else have this problem? Should I take it somewhere else and get second opinion?

Cheers,

M

Rotors in USA - brake discs in UK. It's expected to have very slight circular grooving on discs but not deep grooves. If soft pads are fitted they wear comparatively quickly leaving the disc relatively unworn. If harder pads are used, the pads last well and instead wear down the discs. If the thickness of the discs is less than 24mm, they should be replaced. When pads are down to 2mm, it's time to replace those.

12K miles does sound early to be replacing brake discs. something's gone adrift. I'd need to see and measure them to make a judgement.

I've just had my 80K Km/50K miles service, and the Citroën dealer said I should get my discs replaced within the next few thousands miles. So there's a nice DIY job looming up before it gets too cold and dark. I've been quoted around £45 for pads and £80 for the discs.
