HI, Please does any one know for sure that an engine from an M reg "Volcane" would be the same as one in an N reg "Memphis" I got the Memphis and thinking about buying the Volcane for spares does this sound like a good idea

As far as I know, the Volcane was the first diesel "Hot Hatch" ever produced and used the XUD Turbo engine in standard tune. That is (About) 92 HP and 148 lb/Ft of torque. That much being said, It should be the same as the Memphis. I would be inclined to go the other way though, and do the Volcane up as it's a much better appointed car than a Memphis and probably getting quite rare now.

Your Choice!

I can't remember at what point Citroen started to build ZXs with (almost) full galvanising. The early ones had only the outer panels so treated. A look at the door bottoms should give the game away though. Hy son's P reg is in quite good nick still and had only minor surface rust along the door shut where the water is held against the rubber. My mates old L reg was like a lace doily there!

Cheers. Happy welding! :D

I got the car and she looks a beauty runs and drives sweet, but it is the inner wings that are the problem I didn`t know a car had wings on the inside ! but told it is a major job hoping do be able to get it done cos I love it ! ( Every other part is totally sound ) perhaps they forgot to treat the inner wings ?

Yes! The inner wings and front chassis members never did get "The treatment" on the ZX. It's really the only place a late model ZX will rust. It usually starts behind the headlamps as water can blow in as the car is driven along (through rain) and it lies on the panels and rusts them out. The cost of repair will depend on how bad it is and how far it's gone. If it's gone up around the suspension mounts then it may well be more than the car is worth to repair. BUT! if you really like the car and intend to keep it longterm and do a bit of a "rolling restoration" on it, then it's probably worth it. That, after all is how classic cars are born. Just by someone keeping them in good nick and running into much loved old age!

Cheers. Hope this helps.
