CDPDesign Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Hi there, I have a 54 plate berlingo 2.0 hdi. It's only done about 50k and I#m experiencing electrical problems. The horn stopped working, then worked when it wanted to. Now it will not work at all. I have found the horn, checked the connector, but there is no power to it when the horn is pressed. I have checked the fuses, all ok. It's due for an MOT very soon, and I don't want to get hit with a massive bill, so If I can fix it myself in the meantime, then it would be a big bonus. The other problem I have noticed is that the display above the stereo is rather dim on the left hand side. I can change the language, but that's it. It doesn't have the original head unit fitted, but the replacement was done by a reputable dealer. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Thanks in advance! Quote

CDPDesign Posted September 30, 2008 Author Posted September 30, 2008 Dim display......remove it and replace the defective bulbs No power at the Horn?......so is there power at the fuse? As far as I am aware, yes. Last night I disconnected the battery and left it for several minutes, reconnected and then switched side lights on (the bsi reset process) I could not do the process exactly, as I do not have a working key fob. (that is another problem I have, I cannot get a key fob to program to work the central locking- this may be my error in that I am not doing the correct process!!!) When I then started the engine, the horn worked. The auto central locking had started to work as well. This morning I went to the vehicle, the horn doesn't work! - It's starting to make me think that the BSI is faulty. Does that shed any light at all? When the rain stops, I will strip out the bsi and make sure all connections are good- last time I did this everything was connected and working well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.... Quote
CDPDesign Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 Stripped the bdi out last night and made sure everything was intact- it was. also disconnected the jvc stereo and parrot kit that I have had fitted, this made no difference. the horn still works as and when it feels like it wants to! Someone told me that the contacts under the steering wheel may need cleaning/checking, so can anyone help with instructions on how to remove the airbag to get the wheel off??? Quote
