I don't have any images of it but to help find a thin pipe coming from the exhaust manifold and follow it back to the EGR valve.

I to have a problem my dispatch has a constant rattle or very bad diesel knocking noise. Noise comes and goes with acceleration and general stress on engine IT did dissapear after service but reapeared after a month

Fault code shows P1145 unable to source this one on this site

Citeron say it could be egr valve Wondered if i could dissconect it but dont know how or even fit a blancking plate internally just to fault find If i need to remove valve as in your picture how is this done many thanks

This varible timing issue has plagued my truck since I bought it used with 30,000 miles on the engine. it now has 55,000 miles. Under extended warrenty they replaced both solnoids and I have replaced one sensor. On my truck coded P1110 and P1135 were solnoids and code P1140 was a sensor. I understand that the computer doesnt necessarly send these codes in that order for this failure but the even number coded p1140 and P1110 are for Left hand Bank 1 which is Passengers side. P1135 and P1145 are for right hand bank 2 which is driverside. LH and RH are standing at the front of the truck looking at the engine not from the drivers seat. I am almost convinced this is an oil issue not a sensor or solonoid issue. I now run 5w-30 Mobil 1 synthetic oil and this issue seems to be gone for now. Hopefully forever Dont let your oil get dirty.

What I dont understand is why this is a problem with 2001 and not anything made in 2002 and later. What did nissan change or did they do a software fix?

 

most systems suffer the same fault the above is a copy from another site and different car make but the code means the same regardless

Thanks for quick reply, do i understand that the above answer was a quote from another site and was not your experience? I do however agree about the oil issue. After an oil change noise disappeared for approximatly 4 weeks I now intend to do another oil change this time with fully synthetic oil, however I am still curious wether it is still possible to disconnect egr valve, have you any ideas also have you ever heard of the removal of the egr valve to be cleaned, lastly I am not sure what the above meant with regards to the p codes the only code which came up faulty with my van was p1145 I am still at a loss to what this code refers to

yes it was from another site and its referring to the heated o2 sensor and probably a bogus fault due to engine not running right so oil could be the problem or it due for the throttle body to be cleaned out ( o2 sensor reports fuel/air faults ) and if engine has anything wrong in this area it gives that fault code so don't just change the o2 sensor, clean things first

Could you explain how dirty oil makes van have really bad diesel type knock also i dont know what a throttle body is Also is it hard to remove egr valve and clean it and finally does anybody know if this fault is common my last citreon had same problem never got to the bottom of it many thanks

well on a diesel the oil is always black but if you don't change it regularly the oil sludges up and cant get round the system and same with petrol cars and that's why you get excessive knocking,

the EGR is a common problem with most if not all new cars because it rarely get cleaned out or serviced and its not too difficult to remove when you know where it is,

the throttle body is like a carburetter there is a butterfly valve in there that meters the air and gets coked up which effects the revs because it sticks

Thanks for all info While looking for egr valve heard grating noise looks like its coming from thrust bearing looking at new clutch im not having much luck thanks again

sorry to hear that maisey its sods law and happened to me many times

 

New clutch fitted and unbeliveably nocking noise has dissapeared only been driving 2 days but i think it is fixed it cross fingers anybody got a theory

sounds like the clutch was breaking up hence the noise has now gone

 

Guess what techbod diesel knock returned after 5 days but no way as severe gutted do you think i should go down egr valve theory again or maybe oil change

I would and also check all the engine vents/breathers to make sure the system is breathing a blocked pipe causes lots of issues as the oil gets stuck in places so cant get round, I would do an engine oil flush then new oil and filter
