telfordwhite Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Just bought one of these to be picked up next week so no manuals to hand but was told that oil changes required are quite infrequent - like every 20k miles, or more?? Surely this cannot be right? Anybody know the details off hand and what is the best oil to use? Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Hi There. If Your Xsara picasso is a Diesel it won't be a 1.8. Depending on it's age it will either be 2.0 litre (earlier) or 1.6 litre (later). You can tell the difference easily as the 1.6 has the turbo at the front of the engine and is quite visible. The 2.0 litres one is at the back and out of sight. I think the changeover was late 53 or 04 but I'm not sure. If it IS a 1.8 it will be petrol engined. I'm not sure about the petrol engine, but the 2.0 Litre Diesel has an oil change interval of 12,500 miles (OR 1 year) and uses 10/w 40 Semi or full synthetic oil. (your choice). At this moment I'm not sure of the type of oil in my 2.0 HDi as it was serviced by the garage just before I bought it. However, I used Comma Semi Synthetic in my last Xantia (Same engine) with no problems. I think the 1.6 diesel has a similar requirement. Cheers. Hope this helps. ;) Quote

Johndouglas Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 If your 1.6HDi is between 2000 and 04, you should be using a good quality semisynthetic 10W/40 or 15W/40 and the can should be marked API SJ/A3-96. You'll need 3.5ltrs. to change it. Quote
