thepange Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Long story....but to cut it short, my one month old C1 has been badly vadalised by some evil b*stard! Was visiting a friend the other night and car was parked outside her house, under a street light too. Came out, and was horrified to find the windscreen totally shattered, which was bad enough, but the frame round the window was badly damaged right down to the paintwork. There was a huge boulder next to the car so the police have taken it for fingerprints. My friends ex is the main suspect, but no witnesses so the usual story there. She thinks he thought this was the car of her new man and took a chance. Looks like i was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I am absolutely gutted :( :D :) :( :( :( :( The worst part about it is the damage to the window frame, as the panel goes right round to the back of the car so presumably they will have to replace the whole thing?? Its off to the repairers now so should know more next week. I am really upset about it as you can imagine, and dont know if I want to drive it after this has happened, it not the same. The insurance company have told me the repair is guaranteed for 5 years, so just hope it looks good as new when it comes back. Anybody had any experiences with insurance repairs?? Quote
techbod Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I can imagine :( what was it in the car they were after? did you leave my Rolex watch on the dash j/k but seriously what did they go for? Quote
downsman Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Sorry to hear that :( There's not much I can say apart from, I hope the repair is good and the police get him! Quote

No there was nothing stolen. Was done out of pure spite, has a history of this apparently. Was hit with such force there was glass and dirt all over the car.Lets just say I wont be visiting my friend again. To be honest I am just so upset at this happening to a car that is only 1 month old. Has really ruined it for me, the feeling of driving a new car. Will just have to see how I feel when I get the car back. When I go to the supermarket, I always park in the furthest away part of the car park so nobody scratches the car with their door (from previous experience), so for this to happen is totally sickening. Now driving a hire car around - Ford KA, just not the same!! Quote

ritbitboy Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I'm so sorry to hear your news - what a horrible, distressing experience. I know it's easy for me to say but don't worry. At least you do not have to worry if the chassis has been bent, the suspension ok, and major structural damage etc. This is an easy repair. Repairs these days are excellent - I'm in the trade and have seen many repairs done and they really do look as good as new. My only advice would be to check the repair. It should be as good as new. If it's not, don't be afraid to say that you're not happy with it. Particularly check that the paint is smooth with no bits of grit or dust in the paintwork. It will be easy to spot. Run your hand over it, make sure it's smooth. Look at any joins/door close areas. You wait - all your anxiety will dissolve when you see your beloved machine looking lovely again. Quote

Thanks for your words of encouragement, I need it right now! I will be checking the car like you say when it comes back, just hope its ok. How exactly do they plan to get fingerprints off of a rock? I was a bit puzzled about that too, I thought they could only lift fingerprints off smooth surfaces?? It had been raining too so would have been pretty wet. Maybe they were just trying to humour me?? :( Quote
Martin_1973_uk Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 If he has a histroy of this then why did she date him in the first place. Girls have a habbit of going for the bad boys I guess. I had a Mondeo that went in for repair around the front screen and it sounded a little noiseier but otherwise it was good. The C1 is so noisy anyway I'm sure you wont notice. Working for the police I doubt they'll do much with regards to the offence I'm afraid. PS - They are great cars :-) Quote
ShetlandC1 Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Why do we love our wee Citybugs so much?? I feel for you thepange all will be well in the end....promise. Sal Quote
thepange Posted October 23, 2008 Author Posted October 23, 2008 Update on my poor C1, first chance I have had to post. I got my C1 back on Tuesday, and I must say I am massively impressed with the repair on my wee car! There is absolutely no sign of any dirt or dust on the paintwork, and all smooth! I have shown a few people the car since i got it back, and not one of them could spot where the damage had been. The only minor complaint I had was a gap on the inside where they had one of the interior panels out. This was sorted out with a 5 minute trip to the garage and it was fitted back into place. The whole thing has been a horrible experience, but my insurance company were very efficient and understanding of the situation, and has all been sorted with the minimum of stress. As for the police, well haven't heard anything, but to be honest I know thats probably the end of the story. No witnesses, so not much they can do I suppose. Just glad I've got my wee car back, and back on the road. Thanks for all your posts which cheered me up!! :) Quote
Martin_1973_uk Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Congrats, What insurance company are you with? Quote
thepange Posted October 24, 2008 Author Posted October 24, 2008 I'm with Direct Line who do the vandalism cover, so hopefully my no claims will be ok. Nearly went with Morethan as they were a bit cheaper, but the foreign call centre put me off a bit. Glad I went for Direct Line, who have been most helpful. :) Quote
JenJen Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Glad to see your C1 is okey dokey again! :) Quote
