:o I have a 2.2 HDi C5 and at present i am recieving a message on the display screen telling me to 'unblock diesel filter.' I have had a quick word with the garage and was informed "Oooo!, this is going to cost about £300 to put right." he said, rubbing his hands with glee.

Is this a fair price? Or is my lovely wife being overly tight with the purse strings?

:D

I have just had this message on my car, a 51 plate jobbie, and the garage said the same thing, but without the gleeful smile. I'm told it involves replacing the front exhaust downpipe and the particulate filter. I have the bill in front of me. It quotes £139.42 for the pipe and £74.60 for the filter, all plus VAT and plus fitting of course. They also topped up the eloys fluid. They managed to break a seal, another £11.44, which I think is a seal between the pipe and the filter. All told, including a half-price MOT, I had a bill for £354.90!

What you've been quoted is about the going rate. They'll fit you a cleaned filter and return your old one.

The diesel filter can be changed by a competent DIYer for less than £20. The price you have been quoted is probably for the particulate filter and catalytic converter – nothing what so ever to do with the diesel filter. Regards. HM.
