Guest David Bate Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 ;) For no apparent reason the remote signalling receiver in my 2001 SX has packed up . My local Citroen dealer (Warners) has confirmed that both my keys are signalling and the fault is somewhere in the digital electronic systems and needs further investigation. They are proposing to charge 80GBP per hour, plus VAT (94 per hr. total) for more diagnosis without any promise that the fault can be cleared! Seems that it could involve replacing a control module or board and this could cost up to 500GBP at worst! Although I bought the car new from them in 2001 they have deleted it from their records as I have not used them for routine servicing..... This means, it seems to me, that if any re-loading of secure signalling data is needed, they, Warners, would have to obtain this from Citroen, UK., no doubt at further cost. Should this be the worst-case scenario, what happens to the digital control electronics removed from my car, probably only needing minor servicing to repair a single failed device? I guess there is a thriving market for repaired electronics like this. If so, say Warners diagnose the fault to a specific module and replace it, could I recoup any of the repair costs by retaining the failed device to sell on to a service shop? Or is there a better way to get the remote working again? At Warners prices I'm tempted to carry on unlocking the car mechanically just like I was doing with my first Morris Minor nearly 50 years ago! ! Can anyone help! David Bate, Cheltenham Quote
techbod Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 have you more than one key? if yes then put one in the ignition and turn it to position II then put the remote close to the receiver and press the lock/unlock button to see if it resets it and if it does repeat it with the other remote, mostly what happens is the remote is pressed out of range which blocks the remote and needs resetting Quote

Guest David Bate Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Hi, Techbod, That was a quick, unexpected reply! It's now 10.30 so I will follow up your tips in the morning. Problem is I haven't a clue where the receiver is situated in the car. I guess it is somewhere in the dashboard area? Will report back, and thanks! PS: I'm 78, so be patient! ! ! Quote

Guest David Bate Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Hi, "Techbod". In case you scan these replies from time to time, the problem I had with my Xsara remote locking suddenly not working has just as suddenly cured itself some 3 weeks later! I had refused to pay my local Citroen dealer, Warners, 94 pounds just to tell me which digital board or card was faulty and was resigned to using the actual key in the lock. Then for no real reason I zapped the car one day and it un-locked, with no further trouble! I hate this all-digital world we now have to endure! Quote
techbod Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 that's the problem with this all electric stuff and the weather is 90% to blame and of late its been causing many problems with cars on many sites ive been on and as soon as things warm up its like magic all the problem instantly disappear so making it harder to diagnose, im glad yours has seen the light  and hope it stays that way ;) Quote
