:( Hi all!

I am new to the forum so hello to all and i hope you can help!

I bought my zx 1.4 1997 petrol hatchback a week ago and after drivi ng for a couple of days i was quite impressed!

On the third day though after turning the key the car seemed to be firing on only 3 cylinders for about ten minutes until running fine again?

The next day after firing up on all 4 cylinders she decides to stall at every other junction or traffic light but am able to start the car straight away from stall?

I suspect a problem with fuel regulation ( inlet manifold area) but am not familiar with this vehicle.

Is there a pump, motor or other that can be removed for cleaning etc?

I once had a vauxhall vectra with similar problems and remember cleaning a part around the manifold area with success!

All help appreciated!

Cheers! Simon :) :)

Hi Folks.

I've been chasing a similar problem on the lads ZX 1.4 (P reg 1996 single point injection 116,000 miles). Basically, it was using a lot more fuel than it should have and had bother getting its last MOT on emissions. Other than that it was running fine and idling smoothly. The Cat is also quite new. I suspected the engine temp sensor may have been faulty so I replaced it. No Difference!

Someone then suggested that ultrasonically cleaning the injector might help and after cleaning it the fuel mileage increased dramatically, from an average of under 30 to over 40 and some fills at 44! HOWEVER! that's when the idle "Misfire" raised its head. The engine starts and idles fine when it's cold, but as soon as it reaches operating temperature and returns to "base idle speed" it's as if it's missing. It's spot on when it's working and pulls and sounds great so it's not a huge problem. It's just that the engine rocks and the exhaust isn't even when it's idling. I have treated it to a new set of plugs (Doubled the value of the car!) and have tried a second ignition transformer and another set of leads all to no avail. Is it possible that my problem could be the same stepper motor? Is it possible to ultrasonically clean the entire throttle body without Knackering it? If so, what kind of solvent would be best, or is it easily stripped and manually cleaned? I'm more of a Diesel guy and one of my last petrol cars had points and an SU carby! I understood that one OK!

I await your deliberations in due course! Cheers. :)

I pulled and cleaned all the electrical connecters around the inlet manifold with wd40 before i had to give up because of heavy rain.

In the pouring ,no, bucketing rain i took the car for a 20 mile spin and guess what? Not a stutter a stall or a splutter! I must have had a bad connection somewhere so my advice to all would be a good clean and spray of wd40 before dismantling anything major!

I,m happy now! <_<

Already tried all that but I'll have another go!

Cheers anyway.
