downsman Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I've just received my renewal from Norwich Union. Having swapped from a Civic Type R, I expected a nice surprise, but they've quoted me £275 even with full no claims! Confused.com threw up quotes from £128 to £500, so I suppose they're in the middle, but it seems pretty ridiculous for a group 1 car and a middle aged driver with no convictions. I won't be renewing with them :) Quote
Johndouglas Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 All the insurance companies 'try it on'. They give a low quote to attract your custom, then load it the following year. Just before my renewal is due I get a few quotes from other insurers who offer a similar cover package for my needs. (In my case I want fully comprehensive cover for European driving for at least 90 days in the year). Having got some quotes, I await my renewal notice. If I consider it too high, I ring them, tell them of the quote I've got and ask them if they would like to match it. ---- It usually works! Quote
TurboSlag Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 My renewal was a joke to, so I did what I do every year and rang around. Got it for £92 with Churchhill this year (fully comp, NCB protected, 22 years NCB). Compare that to £1400 for the Honda NSX I just inherited and it's good value indeed. However, compare it to my £9000 Kawasaki ZZR1400 which does the quarter in a veryon crushing 9.21 seconds and blasts up to in excess of 190mph, and costs only £77 a year to insure, and it seems poor value indeed. The Westie is in storage and is on an off road theft/loss policy for about £40 a year with Flux at the moment. Quote
Martin_1973_uk Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 It pays to shop around as it does seem rather high. make sure you go with a policy that gives you a proper courtesy car as most don't come with the full package and it could leave you stranded if you have an accident and they write the car off. Turbo, what is the NSX like as I would love to own one of them? Quote
Trotsky Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 A general insurance rant. Last year, I took a policy for one of the lowest prices from what pretended to be a good company, & only after a claim (other person's fault) discover they used a "claims management " company.I ended up fighting them more than the I would have if I tried to claim directly from other person's insurer i.e. if I had no legal cover.Having paid for legal cover, the whole thing was a disgrace with actions taken without my consent. The uninsured losses recovery was a joke, the organisation left huge amounts to be desired, etc. MY POINT :- it seems better to pay more and go to a long standing insurer with everything In House instead of a jumped up broker that farms the admin. out to a claims management fiasco that accepts the unacceptable for an easy life. It's well worth asking the insurer if they use such companies & UK call centres. wozza Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I checked confused.com. Twas crap but then again no matter which company you go to on there for insurance 1 company gets all the money. They use lots of insurers but they all belong to the same group. Moneysupermarket returns generally better quotes but still were too expensive. Lowest quote I got was £1200 on the comparison websites...this was on my VTS180 group 15. 25yrs old 6yrs NCB and a totally standard car. Rang Brentacre who I was recommended to by various people on another forum as they deal with hot hatches, highly modified cars etc. Brentacre policy = £680 with remap, Induction kit, 18" pro race 1.2's and Lowering declared. And they will also cover my mods like for like in the event of an accident. As long as I do not go over 200hp all my mods are free. And they were 1/2 the price of any of the major companies who were ridiculously overpriced. Policy is actually with Highway. If I go over 200hp then it increases slightly. Talking £10 - £20 slightly.
