Hi , i've just got my self a 1992 zx volcane I. 2.0i XU10 RFX 8v engine.

A few issues wondering if anyone can help with!

1. Speedometer reading but fluttering around the correct speed, also possibly related the trip counter will not reset.

2. The coolant appears to be under huge pressure and will explode out of the top if i open the expansion cap , rad looks pretty bad might that be the cause? Already Put a new cap and will be replacing the thermostat.

3. Central locking doesn't work. Not sure if it's the control unit or servos any way of testing?

4. Also has rust on the block and the bits on either side of the engine bay. Anything to worry about? anything i can do?

Having said all that. It's bloody amazing to drive! So much nice than my 1.4zx

Thanks chris

I would get a pressure test done on the cooling system. It could be that you have a leaking head gasket. On the other hand maybe you radiator is blocked with sludge. Remove it and reverse flush it out with a hose. Where is the rust on the engine? If it's around the joint between the block and the head, that might just confirm that the gasket is leaking. Rust on the inner wings might just be surface rust, but check them for severe body corrosion.
