Hi everyone.

I hope someone can help. Since the colder weather has arrived, I have noticed that my rear heated window does not work.

When I press the switch, it does not click or light up. I have checked the fuse but that seems okay. Any ideas. Thanks.

Thanks Dave.

Iv'e tried a different switch but it still does not seem to click when you press it. Do you think it might be something inside the socket the switch goes into, and if so, how do I get into it?

Thanks

It Could be the switch, But I doubt it. The switch does not "Click" when operated as it makes a circuit which activates a relay and a timer which eventually switches the heater off after a time (About 10 Mins).

What happened on my sons car when the heated rear screen failed was that the feed wire broke where it goes into the rear hatch via the little rubber boot next to the nearside hinge. The loom runs up to the hinge under the edge of the hatch seal strip and is easy to get at. I cropped out the broken piece of wire and ran in a new bit, splicing it into the loom with a soldered joint and shrink sleeving, some way from the hinge boot. It has been OK since then (about 3 years) so I think that's where I'd look.

Cheers. Hope this helps.

Hi Colin.

I hav'nt had a chance to check it yet. I am not sure if you just pull the trim off the window, as I can't see any connectors.

The wiring loom to the hatch goes up to the nearside (British) hinge under the edge of the rubber seal strip. If you remove the trim panel from the nearside of the boot you will find the loom behind the tail lamp. If you also remove the piece of trim from the inside of the hatch (1 each side) you will find where the wire connects to the rear window heater. If you follow the wire back and use a test probe and a meter you should be able to locate the break and repair it. It should be in the region of the hinge where the loom flexes as the hatch opens.

Cheers Hope this helps.

Thanks Colin.

Thats a great help, unfortunately, the Haynes manual does'nt explain any of that. I will give it a try over the weekend.
