Hi Folks,

Got a small issue with my Xantia Activa:

There is a "singing" noise coming from the engine bay somewhere. This noise does not change with revs, and takes a while to die away after switching the engine off, which leads me to think its electrical(?) .....

Further investigation shows that if I switch the air conditioning off or the heater fan off, the noise dies away (after a while, as above).

Anyone got any idea what it could be??? And how to fix it??

On another note and repeating a question from a few years back, does anyone know of a workshop manual for the Activa????

Thanks!!

is the AC fan still active even when you switch it off? mine was and I had to reset it with the diagnostic tool, the AC control unit has to be told/set to know when its on or off I know it sounds daft but its true and I don't know if you can reset it any other way so perhaps others might know

Apologies for my ignorance, but what is the "disgnostic tool"???

Update!

OK folks, I've just been out to the car. The noise is coming from the two fans in front of the radiator. The reason that "takes a while to die away after switching the engine off" is that, of course these two fans run on for a while after switching off. Is this what Techbod is referring to as the A/C fan???

Or is this simply a cooling fan with now knackered motor bearings?? (Is it one motor or two??)

Advice please!!

Yox....

the sound is like a turbo shutting down when the engine is switched off and that's normal because the AC is still on even when you switch it off, try running the engine and check the driver side fan shuts off when you switch the AC off ( mine stayed on regardless ) and needed resetting
