Came around a corner on the way home the other evening only to see the rear passenger door fly open. Luckily no damage and no one sat on back seats.

Looking at the door handle, the open closed mechanism on the handle was very loose and didn't 'catch' on shutting the door - so door basically flapping open/closed. I used the 'emergency' technique described in the manual to secure the door as typically I had an early start, long journey the following morning.

The door's secure but obviously now wont open either using either the outside/inside door handle.

I have no idea what's happened here but I presume somethings either broken/come loose that works the lock.

Any ideas what might have happened?

Big job to do/expensive to fix?

Quite near its MOT now, would this be an MOT failure - I know front door have to open, but MOT website seems a bit vague about the backdoors when it says "Doors - open and close. Latch securely in closed position. Front doors should open from inside and outside the vehicle. Rear doors may need to be opened to gain access to testable items".

Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks. Daf

this is a common problem and down to the latch that the door locks into ( there is a plastic cover that wears away over usage ) not expensive to replace and only 2 star drive bolts holding it
