c5 02 2.0 hdi

flew thru its taxi test on friday and last night the speedo turned to 200.000 miles yes thats 200k. its had a clutch and a diesel filter housing and 30 headlight bulbs 6 sets of droplinks and 4 balljoints. Obviosley its had brake pads and service items but every car uses them so i dont realy count them if you know what i mean. all other items are the original and the car still looks good and the engine is still very responsive with power. in the past with other cars if they get to 200k they are knackered and fit just for scrap but these c5 seem to be in a different class when it comes to reliability. I know a lot of people would disagree but my opinion is that these are not town or once a week cars but need to be used constantly. Also that a lot of antipollution faults are due to the fact that thr cars trundle down to tesco,s and back and never get a good run to clear everything out.

Now also got another c5 with 160k on the clock so will be watching to see how that gets along. and on the other end weve got a c5 petrol thats a 51 plate only done 70k and at present its got the head off getting new valve stem oil seals in aswell as just having a new cat and 2 struts a coil pack and 2 shperes so ive got to say that the diesel seems to be the better of the 2.

Good to see some positive news!

I have to disagree about the petrol versions though. My (non HPI) 2 litre petrol is on 123k miles now and running as smooth as silk. Mixed driving around 300 miles per week. New clutch at 112k ( thrust bearings collapsed - I blame the first owner - probably using the clutch pedal as a foot rest - what can you do?)

I don't thinkink I'll keep it that much longer, but I can see it doing 200k without too many problems.

I read a letter in the Times from someone who had just got rid of their Peugeot petrol delivery van with 613k miles on the clock and original engine and gearbox. It was still running fine..

Thats good to hear. Last car I had with high mileage was a Mitsu Pajero (350,000 kilometres on the clock). My C5 has got just under 80K so hopefully will have plenty of life left in it. Currently got a Volvo S40 on loan whilst mine is in the garage having some straight doors fitted.

Even though the Volvo is top of its range (high spec) I don't think it is, overall a patch on the C5 (110 HDi 52 plate SX). Looking forward to getting the ride comfort and better power useability back.

That's music to my ears from coastline taxi's, and backs up exactly what I was told about 2 to 3 years ago by the retired owner of a garage whose business was to maintain cars used as taxis. He himself had chosen to run a 2.0 hDi C5 as his own car as he had seen quite a few even then get to the 200,000 mile mark with no maror engine faults. It was hearing this that made me decide to purchase my wife's company car once it got to the end of its lease. (Up until then it had been viewed as a slow big load-lugger that was plagued by stupid electrical faults, lock faults etc...., that we were glad we didn't have to pay to fix.)The ex-garage owner did point out that the 2.0hDi was the only engine he would consider, and in his opinion was one of the best he'd ever dealt with. At the time he was considering changing his model (for a different spec or bodytype I think), and was seriously considering another with the same engine but it was at 250,000!!!!! That decided it for me.
