techbod Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 the ZX is a very fine car to known moders and the limit is the size of the wallet ( older classics stand out in the crowd ) new ones are nice but expensive  first thing you want to do is service the check everything out like breaks/discs/tyres/exhaust then the fun starts and your hooked, there are plenty of helpers/enthusiasts on many sites for that car so there will be much assistance given if requested and good luck on your first venture you will always remember it :) Quote
will8971 Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 cheers for the advice dave....am currently in germany and to get it serviced it is going to cost 180 euro which is basically 180 quid nowerdays... i was thinking bout doing it all myself but not sure how to but willing to learn is it best getting a mechanic to do the first as am pretty sure it hasnt been serviced for a long time!!!! will8971 Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 awww cheers again dave, another question i have is....At the start of journey when car has be left over night or for couple of days... while excerlerating the revs go up but doesnt seem to be much excerleration, even after shifting up gears.. this doesnt happen very often, but enough to cause worry, when it is doing this it feels like there is a ristriction and once up into 3rd gear at bout 30mph/50kmph its euro speedo so in k´s , it seems to sit there for a while maybe 2mins or so then after that everything seems ok, what could this be??????? Guest Colin Hunter Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I bought a 1996 (p) ZX 1.4 elation 4 years ago as a non runner for £200 (No tax MOT or anything!) to "do up" for my son's first car. We (He & I) fixed it up during the few months before he was 17 and got his provisional licence. It needed all sorts to get it through the MOT but we did it for a total cost below £500. He passed his test in it a few weeks before his 18th bithday and we still have it and it's a CRACKING wee car. He's now 21 and it's done 117,000 miles and SAILED through the last test with good emissions and everything. It goes well, handles great and, most importantly, costs VERY little to keep in good nick. They are TRULY a great little car. MUCH under-rated. Cheers  Quote
