scimitargtc Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 My 2003 HDI blew her drivers seat airbag after sliding on ice (wow what a smell for so little excitement!) - replaced the unit but I can't reset the dash warning lamp with the freebie software - local garage is saying it's a £3k ECU replacement............... options?????? iannez Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 you need to replace the airbag ecu and have it configured to the car. no where near 3k. or you could find one at a breakers as long as no airbags have been activated and then have it programmed to suit your car. if you can get one from a car with the same spec as yours it would be a straight swap (no config needed). techbod Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 is it worth a repair one must ask? are airbags safe? what did we do before they were fitted? why is is it not mandatory in the UK, 1/. they cannot be considered reliable because the only way to test them is in an accident and 90% don't deploy when they should ( look at the breakers yards for this result ) you will get a shock, 2/. why do only very expensive cars have a proven kit what wrong with ordinary people?,, 3/. do they do the job and what are seat belts supposed to do. I call it a safety overkill and only the makers make cash out of it ( ask them to put a guarantee on them and they would pass out Quote
