bigray Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Hi, I have a 51 Plate CD with a faulty CD player first thing i'm planning to do is take the head unit out and have a look and clean the lens however if I do and therefore dissconnect it from the power will it need to have my VIN code re-programmed into it. If that doesn't fix it I was planning to install an aftermarket unit and get a wiring adapter however my local parts hop tells me that because I have the remote control stalk you can't get adapter leads (not too fussed if the remote doesn't work) does anyone know any different and will my dashboard display with the time/date/temp still work if I install an aftermarket radio. Thanks Quote
coastline taxis Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 wont need to re vin them. your time and date display will still work althugh it wont tell you what radio or cd track your playing. No need to take the unit out to clean the lens just buy a cd lens cleaner and use it in situ. Quote

Thanks I have replaced with an aftermarket unit and it works fine with the supplied iso power lead.(also plays MP3 discs - a big advantage) However there are 3 things it doesn't do it doesn't come on and off with the ignition - there is no switched feed as the C5 employs Canbus/Vanbus protocol it doesn't talk to the remote stalk it doesn't send anything to the dash display, although everything else keeps working on the display ( temp date time etc) I tried a Connect2 lead for the stalk and it didn't work. I am currently thinking about an Autoleads lead, which supposedly creates an ignition pulse to cure point 1 and is sufficiently clever to communicate with the stalk. Unfortunately it costs £65, so I'm not sure it's really worth it. Quote
