This might sound like a silly question, I've outed my old 70bhp 1.9d Berlingo & Ive now got a new 110bhp hdi XTR Berlingo. but how do I know I aint been ripped off & its actually an hdi 90bhp engine? obviously its faster than my old one but I dont know how much faster it should be. Ive looked all round the engine & I cant find any identifing marks to say it a 110. All the paperwork of course says its a 110 but how do I actually tell difference between a 90 & a 110. I'm guessing there will be a clue in the engine number but I have searched the net & failed to find any info, Does anybody know? Cheers.

It's all in the engine code - and can be found in the VIN. RHZ is 110BHP and RHY is the 90BHP. Lets hope you haven't been 'done' ;)

a remap would take you to around 120bhp. much easier option if you want a bit extra power. the engine codes john posted are from the 2.0 hdi engines. yours will be a 1.6 hdi and this will probably be the reason why the letter r is missing from your vin.

I'm looking into all of this myself.

I have the Siemens system and it seems that they cannot be remapped, whereas the Bosch system can. So, for the time being that option isn't available.

I've acquired the radiator/condenser/intercooler sub-assembly from a C5 and the necessary air hoses from a 406 and hope to be able to cobble it all together to get a "factory" intercooler setup. I don't plan to change my turbo or ECU software to match the 110 but may increase the boost on mine.

With this, I hope to be able to get 110-115bhp reliably and safely with the hope I might be able to do something with the ECU etc in the future.

If anyone has any experience, advice or thoughts on this, I'm all ears !!

How did you get on with this? did you manage to get it all to fit?

I have a siemens system, and I have added a kingquip tuning box. This does make a difference, but I would be interested in fitting a similar intercooler system to yours...

Still not done - no excuses, just not got round to it

The main problem is routing the hoses from the engine bay to the front of the radiator. A simpler option would be a top mount like some old Citroens had ??ZX or 306??

I also have a tuning box, a "Tunit" which has a rotary switch on the front. My local rolling road / tuner of all things Subaru/American V8 etc reckons he can adjust the settings in this box and get it running even more efficiently. I'm hopefully getting the boost sorted and the exhaust modified in the next couple of weeks, so will pay him a visit after that

if you manualy alter the boost the ecu will see the extra pressure as a fault. also the fueling will be all wrong a would damage your engine. if it was that easy there would be no need for a remap. a good remap will adjust boost and alter fueling to suit and also change the stored values in the ecu so the extra boost wont be seen as a fault.
