chrisrhondda Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Hi all, my c5 has just died on me, this is exactly how it all happened. The kids were sat in the car with the mrs messing about and the littlest one bent the key in the ignition. I managed to get the key out but i tried to straighten it and the end snapped off. My dad took me over my house to fetch the spare key i put the key in tried to start it but the car wont start now???? just keeps turning over any suggestions??? I've called the aa out but no luck and the car has gone into safe mode stopping me closing the drivers window. they pulled the fuel line off by the filter and the fuel is comeing through from the tank. i'm just hoping the high pressure pump hasn't gone again ??????? is this likely or can someone suggest anything else ???? ThANKS Quote
coastline taxis Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Could be a couple of thingsIs it the right spare key have you tried it before also have you switched the imobiliser of with the key fob or via the door lockIf still no luck then I would be checking the ignition barrell as car was running fine till the key was bent inside of it then it wouldnt start so thats where your problem is. probally a wire of the back or the ignition barrel is goosed anything could do it Quote
chrisrhondda Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 Ok will have a check through it later on and let you know what my findings are ? Quote
pragmatix Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 This may sound daft, but have you tried opening the door and closing it then lock and unlock, this may clear the imobiliser fault Quote
cardsharc Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 i think its the key thats the problem could try tape key to new 1 see if it picks up on engine emobiliser Quote
chrisrhondda Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 hi does anyone know of a good plug in diagnostic thing i could get for my car ??? the car is also in safe mode now and wont let me do anytrhing????? any ideas??? the guy has check the pump and its working fine?? theres fuel getting into the rail but not passing through the injectors so i haven got a clue he has suggested maybe it be the crank shaft sensor or the key/immobiliser ???? i'm ultra confused . I need to reset the fault codes thats coming up and then try and start it see what happens. what codes re appear Quote
coastline taxis Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I take it thatThe key that snapped had the buttons on for to lock/unlock the doors and the spare key youve got dosent. The spare key fits and turns the ignition on but dosnt work the imobiliser. Thats why your car has went into safe/economy mode and wont start. Your just chasing your tail looking for faults in the engine. Take your log book and some ID and go to the dealers and get a new key/fob just a daft thought when the key was snapped had they been repeatidly pressing the buttons on the key fob because if the had it might of put the remote out of sync with the imobiliser. does the fob lock and unlock the car Quote
chrisrhondda Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 No the spare fob has buttons on it to, but they wouldn unlock or open the doors etc. so i took the board out of the one that was working so it will open the doors now but wont start the car. Quote
coastline taxis Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 just a daft one but try resyncing the key 1 put key in barrel and switch ignition on2 pus the lock button on the key fob and keep it down for 10 seconds3 switch ignition of and wait 3 second4 lock then unlock the doors using the key fob5 Now try starting the car is the display saying imobiliser fault Quote
chrisrhondda Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 no all the display is saying is economy mode ???? I'll try that with the key tho and let you know if it works ? Quote
chrisrhondda Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 Na no luck cant get the fob to open and lock the doors ?? Still wont Start ? Quote
coastline taxis Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Your imobiliser is stopping the car from starting. the economy mode on the display is normal and will disapear as soon as the car fires up.. have you got any remote that locks/unlocks the door and do you have a key that will fit and take the steering look off Quote
chrisrhondda Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Hi the old fob wil open and unlock the doors and the spare key will open doors via lock and will turn the steering lock off and put the ignition lights on. So what i've done at the moment is take the chip out of the old key and put it into the new one so now i got a fob which will open and lock the doors and will turn the ignition on but it wont start. So it's booked in down citroen this afternoon so they can sort it out for me. ;) Hopefully it wont be to much costly. Quote
chrisrhondda Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 Finally sorted the problem, all along it was the key, i can get the car started now all i have to to is put the old key into the ignition barrel first then as i'm taking that key back out slide the spare key in. Sounds a bit much i know but hey! it works. All booked into citroen now to get re programmed this week so fingers crossed. Thanks for all your help anyway ;) Quote
