Guest gs fan Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I'm probably in the wrong section ( problems & fixes ) cause i'm going to lavish some praise on the C5 . Compared to some of the cars I've owned the C5 is very robust in some ares . My last car ( a Volvo 460 ) was a fine car in many ways , but the front lower wishbone bushes and ball joints were weak needing replaced every 30 k or so , they told me it was the torque from the diesel engine that caused them to fail . When I had my C5 in last week for the cv gaiter I asked them to check the lower bushes and joints and they are fine after 85 k . Every car I've owned needed a brake pipe after five years or so due to rust , the C5 is truly amazing in this area , I had a good check over them the last time I was under her and the brake and suspension pipes are like new ( are they made of something special ??) . Also on the subject of rust Citroens just don't ... Look at all the old Xantias on the road 10 years plus now and spotless most of them . I got my C5 at the same time as one of the lads I worked with bought a VW Bora , both had a modest milage for their age around the 45 k mark 51 plate , he has had nothing but bother with his German machine , front suspension bushes , driveshaft replaced , window fell into the door , severe rust round the rear wheel arches , dual mass meter , instrument panel failed . So that's enough praise for now .....it's bound to go tits-up now !!!!!! Quote

The nearest I came to it was a Fiat Tipo in the early nineties ,nothing mechanical but crazy electrics . It was renamed the Fiat Heapo by a mate of mine which suited it perfectly ,strange though I was sad when I finally wrote it off . Quote

ando7p Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Most makes have their problems. My colleagues 07 plate Fraud Focus is on its 3 drive shaft (dealer mechanic addmitted its a known issue but Ford no design fix as yet), new set of front discs (only done 15k) and one gearbox failure. Ford, by the way, is Fix Or Repair Daily! Has anyone got one for CITROEN?? Quote
