Martin_1973_uk Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 The results are out for the JD Power Survey and the C1 comes 91st. What surprises me is the Aygo is 12th yet is more or less the same car. They rate the performance highly on the Aygo yet the C1 gets a poor rating. The odd results are like this across the board between the Aygo and C1. I guess some owners have a better opinion of Toyota's than Citroen's so they rate them higher. Quote
downsman Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 You've hit the nail on the head. The questions are often subjective, particularly now that cars don't often break down and fall to pieces. Toyota buyers believe they are buying a more expensive product because it is reliable. They are going to continue believing it's a good product until it proves otherwise. Unfortunately, in the UK a lot of Citroens sell because of discounted price. The buyers assume it is a cheaper product rather than the same car, and are looking for faults. I understand Toyota dealers are supposed to be good, and that has quite an effect on JD Power too. Having said that our dealer (Wilmoths) have always been excellent :) Quote
750Nig Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Where did the pug come? For a guess, somewhere in between ! Quote
Martin_1973_uk Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 The Pug came about 31st I think. I think a lot of it is about perception rather than what people actually think of the cars. They still say they have been very reliable with few problems. I'm tempted to trade mine in for a VTR model as I'm so pleased with the car after two years of ownership. The thing that is putting me off is it is £2,100 more than the C1 I bought two years ago? It has electric windows and five doors added but it seems a high price hike. Has anyone elese experienced price hikes? Quote
750Nig Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Maybe the Toyota owners are trying to justify the higher price they paid for the same car by 'talking it up' in the surveys. It also shows that using this kind of survey to help in choosing a new car isn't really the thing to do. Personally I won't be buying another one, it is fine for what it is but I find it tiresome on longer trips. Probably go for something a little larger and more comfortable, maybe a Polo or Fiesta. We'll see in a years time. Quote
Martin_1973_uk Posted June 25, 2009 Author Posted June 25, 2009 I think the survey is a good idea. I was just surprised to see the C1 so low down. Are their that many unhappy owners out their? They say the car is cheap to run and relaible but they don't like the car itself. Unfortunatly cheap cars will be cheap, fact of life. What owners on here have had problems? Maybe we could do our own rating system, give marks out of ten for the following, taking the price in to consideration. Performance 7/10Looks 8/10Space 7/10Comfort 2/10Running costs 10/10 Problems, none so far after two years of onwership. It is ok to go for a bigger car but the running costs jump a lot higher. Fiesta's start at over 10K and the decent economy one is 12.5K which is a lot of money for a small car although to be fair they do look nice. I would buy another C1 but maybe get the model with central locking and electric windows next time. The main reason being that they don't go wrong a lot. You only have to read the owner reviews on what car of Fiesta's and it would put you off for life. Quote

Has anyone elese experienced price hikes? We have just traded my wife’s 5 door C1 vibe in for a 5 door C1 VTR. In 2006 we paid 6.2k we were offered a 5 door Rhythm in red for 6.9k or with metallic paint at 7.3k. The VTR cost us 7.9k OTR with metallic paint so the price increase like for like was £600 in 3 years. I must also mention that px value was almost 4k for our Vibe, if we had purchased the ford KA we had looked at the px value would have been closer to 2.5k, overall I think the C1 has been very good value. The above figures were from a main dealer I expect if you sell privately you will get an even better deal through one of the many internet traders. Quote
Martin_1973_uk Posted June 29, 2009 Author Posted June 29, 2009 I paid 6.5K in 2007 for my 3 door C1 Cool Edition, like a Vibe but with Air Con and Met Paint. They have now quoted me 8.8K for a 5 door C1 VTR with Met Paint. They have offered me £4,600 for an 07 reg. Just seems the price isn't as cheap as it was in 2007. I totally agree about the KA. Fords lose so much in value, I don't know who would buy one brand new these days. Quote
wozza Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I honestly think the JD power survey is extremely flawed. Things just don't add up with it to be completely honest. The C4 range is an odd one. The C4 Picasso is best of class. While the C4 hatch and coupe with the same engines and gearboxes etc are not reliable and the result is it came 2nd from bottom in its class. Also marked down as below average on looks for the C4. I am sorry but the C4 is a better looking car than the A class mercedes. Yet the C4 got 2 stars for looks the A class got 5 I believe....Honestly! One is a sporty looking hatch the other is basically a van with more windows. I honestly think it comes down to badge snobbery and those who do get lemons of cars complaining massively while those who have perfect cars never say anything. I mean someone buys a VW it develops a rattle you take it back to the dealers and ask them to fix it. Then say the dealers were great. That happens to a Citroen you get 5 threads on the forum about how it is the worst built car ever. How rubbish Citroens are and you are never buying another one. Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I honestly think the JD power survey is extremely flawed. So do I. For dealer service the Citroën Xsara Picasso got "service was rated highly", When it comes to Citroën Grand C4 Picasso, dealer service was "only average".I know there's good Citroen dealers and also some crappy ones but when I read such inconsistencies, I can't be very impressed by the rest of it. Trotsky Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I honestly think the JD power survey is extremely flawed. /quote] I agree. Some years ago, I worked with a dubious character with a Vauxhall Frontera which he claimed was a rubbish car but entered the survey with a glowing report to help give it a better reputation so it's re-sale / trade in value would not suffer; having been already savaged in such reports. I'm not sure there is a perfect survey system. Quote

Clearly, the Toyota owners have a perception that the Aygo must be good becasue it costs more. It's a lot of money for a badge. Quote
Martin_1973_uk Posted July 3, 2009 Author Posted July 3, 2009 I guess you can't argue with public opinion!!!!!!!!! I think the idea is good but they need more responses from owners. Just on here most people seem to praise the C1 so I can't understand where the bad marks have come from. I guess the survey is advertised in What car and Top Gear who's owners don't like these smaller type of cars and poor image. My C1 is two years old yet I never got a questionnaire. Quote
