Big Al Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Hello all, I like the new look website!I think I must be getting a bit daft in my middle age - I had my bike on the roof and drove through a height barrier into a car park. You can imagine the consequences - bike ripped off the roof and damaged (but luckily not wrecked), bike carrier ruined and roof rail broken. Actually I got off lightly since the only damage to the car was to the front mounting section of the o/s roof rail - a part that appears to be made of very hard plastic and is about a foot long. It plugs into the front end of the rail to anchor it to the roof. I've been to Citroen to enquire and they only sell the roofrail complete at £242 + vat per side! I've been trying the breakers but no joy yet. So my question is, does anyone know of a C5 estate (mine's an '03) that is breaking and might be able to provide this part? Thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I had my bike on the roof and drove through a height barrier into a car park. Can't help you but I know the feeling. I did the same thing but with a roof box on top. However the roofbox was able to absorb the impact without further damage. Only needed a new roofbox! Quote
Big Al Posted July 21, 2010 Author Posted July 21, 2010 Good to know I'm not alone! Still can't believe I did it. Quote
fatgut Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Hard luck, I did it too in 1991, so know how stupid it makes you feel. I have been so aware of anything on the roof ever since! We were quoted this ridiculous price by our main dealer too. I went on-line and found a Citroen dealer in Norwich that I think sold them for a delivered price that was under £150 for the pair. I will have the receipt upstairs so can confirm if necessary. I bought through their ebay shop. I fitted them easily, just 3 Allen bolts on each.Hope it helps Quote
Big Al Posted July 23, 2010 Author Posted July 23, 2010 I'm now paranoid whenever passing under any height restriction! Thanks for the tip, and if you have any more info about the source of your roofrails then I'd be glad to have it. If the breaker option fails then £150 is a sight better than what I've been quoted so far. Cheers Quote

CheersIt was Duff Morgan Parts, and guess what, I've just checked their site and they have scaled back their range massively. C5 roof rails not listed, but could always send them an enquiry given how competitive they were. Quote
