Guest gs fan Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Has anyone replaced the bushes on the front suspension lower arm?The rear one on my C5 nearside looks like the rubber has started to perish( it's the one that is fixed to the subframe with two bolts). The haynes manual gives the method for removing the arm ,but then goes on to say "check the condition of the arm and bushes" but doesn't say how the bushes are removed / replaced.I see the bushes are available from many on-line suppliers , as are the arms complete with bushes , the bushes are cheap about £15 , the complete arms are around £90.If anyone can give advice i'd be gratefull as ever. jack. coastline taxis Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 The rear bush is just pushed on and is a pain to get lined up right to remove them we heat them with oxy/acetylne and just hammer them of then you have to clean the wishbone so the new bush will go on. the front one is best removed with a bush puller. We stopped doing them a while ago as it was taking to long and now we just replace the whole wishbone its a lot easier and can be done in half a hour Quote

This is my second attempt at typing my reply . I was just about done and my computer shut its self down to "configure updates" without warning , if it does it again it'll go out the F/ing window. You've confirmed what I thought , that replacing the bushes wouldn't be so easy without the right equipment . Do you think that the on-line price of £90 is about the going rate for the complete arm , or can you recommend a supplier ??On another subject .. The local tyre dealer had Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response in at a sale price of £220 for 4 fitted . I thought that was a good price and as my rubbers were all a bit bare I got a complete set . The car feels just as good ride / handling as it was before ( I had Michelin energys on the front and Bridgestones rear previously) but my computer is saying that my average fuel consumption has gone from 45 to 39 mpg. Any thoughts on this ?? What tyres do you favour ??Apart from the minor niggles above ..me old C5 is approaching 100K and has been one of the best cars I've ever had .Mind you I've had a few dogs in my time ...some crap cars too !!!Made it this time.Jack.
