Guest TippFan Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I am 50 years old and have driven many cars throughout my life. I recently purchased a 1 year old C5 Diesel (right-hand drive model). As I drive along and depending on where my right foot is placed on the floor , I note that there is insufficient clearance between floor of footwell and underside of steering wheel/dashboard to quickly transfer my foot from accelerator to the brake pedal. I have a standard sized foot ( UK Size 10 in a shoe or 44.5 Europe). I find that the toe of my shoe regularly catches in the underside of the dashboard (i.e. my shoe literally jams between floor & underside of dahboard/steering column) This slows down my foot transferring to the brake which has led to a couple of minor scares. I consider there is a design fault in the footwell area i.e. that a minimum clearance should be allowed to allow for quick transfer between the pedals without having to readjust your foot. I intend writing to the manufacturer but would welcome anybodys views on this. Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 My shoe size is 11 (45 Euro size) and I can't say I've ever experienced any trouble in moving from accelerator to brake pedal. Maybe you've got too much carpet in there? Quote

Maybe you've got too much carpet in there? OR your seat is too near the steering wheel which will make your feet/legs come almost straight down on the gas/brake pedals instead of being at an angle which in my opinion would be a more comfortable driving position, you could try altering your seat and steering wheel positions and see if this makes a difference... Hold on JD - I think this is a mk3/saloon ("recently bought a 1 year old") As you say, there's no problem on the mk 1/2 hatchbacks. The new model however isn't renowned for good interior space. This sounds like a dangerous fault. Typically German!! Quote
